GFL Environmental is seeking a high-capacity Operations Supervisor to oversee our Delta, BC facility.
This role is designed for a leader who understands that peak production is only possible through the meticulous management of both people and heavy equipment. You will be responsible for the "heartbeat" of our operation: the machinery and workflows that process our waste streams.
The Job:The Operations Supervisor will focus on output maximization and equipment reliability. You will be the primary lead on ensuring that our production fleet- including front-end loaders, material handlers, and processing equipment is operated safely, efficiently, and maintained to prevent production bottlenecks. Your goal is to minimize idle time and maximize processes.
Key Responsibilities:Equipment Utilization: Oversee the daily deployment and operation of heavy equipment (loaders, skid steers, etc.) to ensure maximum throughput in the yard and facility.
Preventative Maintenance Oversight: Partner with the maintenance department to schedule routine servicing of production assets, ensuring minimal disruption to active service lines.
Operator Performance: Train and supervise operators on heavy machinery to ensure they are meeting production cycles while adhering to fuel-efficiency and safety protocols.
Facility Throughput: Monitor the "receiving/building" flow, identifying and resolving bottlenecks in the sorting and loading processes.
Pre-Shift Inspections: Enforce rigorous pre- and post-trip equipment inspections to reduce "wear and tear" costs and prevent catastrophic mechanical failures.
Site Layout Management: Organize the yard and processing floor for optimal traffic flow of both collection trucks and production machinery.
Operational Budgeting: Track "cost per hour" for major equipment and manage labor hours to ensure a lean, high-output operation.
Requirements:Supervisory Experience: 2-3 years in a production-intensive environment (e.g., Waste Management, Construction, Manufacturing, or Pit/Quarry operations).
Equipment Proficiency: Strong familiarity with the operation and maintenance requirements of heavy machinery (loaders, excavators, etc.).
Availability: Must be able to work flexible and varying shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, or weekends.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with WorkSafeBC regulations, WHMIS, and the Highway Traffic Act.
Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract.
Skills and Abilities:Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to quickly assess equipment issues and coordinate with mechanics to prioritize repairs.
Spatial Awareness: Skilled in designing yard layouts that maximize storage and speed up load-out times.
Tactical Planning: Able to adjust production schedules on the fly when equipment goes "down" to maintain customer service levels.
Why Join TEAM GREEN:Advanced Fleet: Work with industry-leading heavy equipment and technology.
Comprehensive Benefits: Full health, vision, and dental coverage.
Career Growth: Path to roles like Operations Manager and more.
