Operations Supervisor

Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The candidate is responsible for all terminal operations involved in the handling of customer products.  This includes responsibility for customer fulfillment, operational excellence, budget control as it pertains to operations, enforcement of all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead and direct daily operations of the terminal in a safe, cost efficient and customer focused manner.Use of team work to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.Work with customer service group to promptly resolve customer complaints and deviations.Responsible for effective supervision of personnel involved in the handling of customer’s products by ensuring the product from the vessels, tank cars, and tank trucks is handled with maximum efficiency and minimum cost while maintaining product integrity.Responsible for inputting and completion of orders into computer systems as required.Responsible for preparing, conducting and/or recommending professional training and development for subordinates.Required to be an active member of the terminal leadership in the evaluation and direction of terminal efforts.Other duties as assigned.Management presence 24/7 to manage incidents, make decisions, drive productivity, customer liaison, security responsibilitiesTraining (various operational, procedural, equipment)Conduct Practical Field EvaluationsAssistance to EHS department with various inspections tracking / logging, enforcementAssistance for Maintenance / Engineering with permits, contractor training, contractor managementWeekend scale coverage (currently 2 full time KM employees, 1 temp. and another temp training) could reduce 1 temp.Back up order processing / packagingScheduling of vessels, manpower, trucksVacation breaking

 

Position Requirements

EducationHS Diploma required.  Bachelors degree in General Business Management, Engineering, or Chemistry preferred.

 

Experience, Specific Knowledge, Certification, Licenses  Minimum 5 years Working Conditionsexperience in an industrial unionized setting.  Oil or chemical terminaling or facility processing is preferred.Must have practical knowledge of: environmental regulations; chemical operations and/or chemistry; maintenance skills.Must be computer literate with specific knowledge of MS Office products.  Must be able to learn new systems.

 

Competencies/SkillsStrong written and verbal communication skills required.Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks.Ability to establish and maintain working relationships at all levels of the organization.Must have demonstrated experience in implementing and initiating continuous improvements in facility operations.Ability to present ideas professionally and effectively.Must have a positive attitude, take pride in work and in that of subordinates, and maintain integrity, openness, and trustworthiness.Must be able to manage during times of vagueness and with limited information.

 

 Must be able to withstand various weather conditions.Must be able to work rotating shifts or off-hour shifts.Must be available to work additional hours to serve as vacation relief.Must be able to work in a fast paced stressing environment.

 

Supervisory ResponsibilityResponsible for direct supervision of up to 15 hourly union employees.
