The Opportunity
We have an immediate and exciting opportunity for a Operations Manager to join our Regional Building team – Yorkshire. We are looking for an individual who wants to either take the next step in their career and further their responsibilities or build on their existing experience.
The posting is based from our Castleford office and services North, West, South and East Yorkshire, with occasional projects in adjacent geographies.
Reporting into the to the Regional Director, forming part of the Senior Regional Management Team in managing/coordinating all aspects of Construction Operations. Responsibility for Operational Activity of £4m-£80m pa across 6-8 Projects.
We need someone who can lead and manage the construction operations, ensuring they are fully resourced and delivered safely, on time and within budget to high quality client specifications. You will be a proactive, creative, and logical individual with a solution focused outlook. You must be competent working in a busy, pressured environment and be able to meet tight deadlines.
What you will be doing and Responsibilities
Responsible for leading on Health and Safety in the Region and driving national and local health and safety initiatives. Ensure safety risk is eliminated or reduced in construction, ensure that the company safety systems are set p, implemented, adhered to and reviewed at all stages. Responsible for the deployment and coordination of Design Management, Planning and M&E Services Management in supporting operational activity together with other Function Heads Responsible for ensuring Social Value commitments are met Responsible for adherence to Company Management Systems and their effective deployment on Contracts Responsible for Operational resource in support of Bids and formal Pre-Contract appointments Responsible for the effective engagement of Central Support Functions in support of Operational activity Operational staff resource deployment Team and individual development - recruiting, coaching, managing, mentoring and developing members of the project teams in their personal development; undertaking annual appraisal for direct reports; building effective project teams. Quality management to ensure zero defect handover to programme. Assist with the establishment and delivery of the objectives and targets contained within the Annual Business Unit Business Plan; Ensuring all projects collate and achieve KPI benchmark objectives. Contributing to and ownership of project reporting. Ensuring QA compliance with company Business Management Systems Ensuring supply chain quality and support; building relationships with key suppliers Maintaining effective and long-term relationships with internal and external customers and their representatives/advisors; introducing new clients and supply chain to the Tilbury Douglas business Ensuring projects are constructed to meet Authority/Client requirements and Contractor’s proposals Formulating and developing construction programmes, monitoring and ensuring progress against these To build successful delivery teams. Proactively support commercial, design, planning and aftercare teams Keeping Regional Management team fully informed at all times Review all design for build ability, long-term durability and profitability Support CSR BREEAM process and submission Being proactive in the identification and resolution of problems Work winning – supporting the pre-con team with involvement in providing relevant resources and technical expertise to bids, occasional bid management and attending/leading interviews Wider business – engagement with other regions and central functions to share best practice, supporting others in areas of personal expertise and knowledge sharing As a senior level advocate of the business – engagement in business development duties and attending events.What we will need from you
Degree/HNC/D level in Construction Management/Surveying or similar. Experience in the delivery of a range of projects from £100,000 to £80m. Experience in the delivery of both D&B and traditional projects. Experience of delivering projects through NEC/JCT/bespoke forms of contract. Experience in delivery of high quality civic/education/office/health/blue light/industrial buildings. Good knowledge of building and general construction techniques and methodology. A working knowledge of the design and procurement process. Commercially aware. Proven track record and good references. Proficient use of Microsoft Office packages inc. Word, Excel, Teams & PowerPoint. Proficient use of ASTA or similar project programming tools. BREEAM/Sustainability/Environment knowledge and experience. Must hold a full UK driving licence for regular travel. Hold relevant CSCS card. CIOB/RICS/ICE or similar membership. SMSTS qualification.Person
Technical construction commercial and knowledge. Ability to supervise others to achieve tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail. Ability to manage, mentor and lead individual members of the construction team. Effective communication – electronic written and oral. Ability to work with and motivate a team. Ability to seek and take on board feedback and implement corrective action. Innovative and strong at finding solutions/alternatives.
