The Wyoming State Penitentiary is seeking a Office Support Specialist - Law Librarian . The Law Librarian provides reasonable and meaningful access to the Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP) law library. This position instructs inmates on how and where to access requested legal information, explains the availability and proper use of legal forms, and guides inmates through the general legal research process. Human Resource Contact: megan.sims@wyo.gov or 307-857-3326 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level. + Supervising the law library + E-filing Federal District Court documents + Copying/printing, notary, keep up to date policies and procedures for inmate distribution in the library + Providing inmates with legal forms for the court + Legal research via the internet on Lexis Nexis and other legal sites + Answering inmate request forms + Check-in and check-out law library material + Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those with a 2-year degree. Preference may also be given to those with 2 years of work experience with a Library background. KNOWLEDGE: + Knowledge of the organization and management of information and materials services + Knowledge of research, indexing, records management, and databases. + Knowledge of the basic principles of education. + Knowledge of mainframe and personal computer systems. + Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and policies, technical processes, and procedures related to the department. Will be trained in finding the laws and codes. + Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Business) Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc. + Lifting/grasping up to 20 pounds on an occasional to regular basis, without assistance + Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis + Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis + Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching on an occasional basis + Reaching on a regular basis + Typing/Repetitive motion on a frequent basis + Talking/hearing on a frequent basis + Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminal, and extensive reading + Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
