Job Summary
The OB Technician assists in obstetric and surgical procedures, acting as a scrub person and handling instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries. This role plays a key part in ensuring a sterile environment, preparing for procedures, and supporting obstetric teams in providing safe and high-quality patient care. The OB Technician collaborates with nurses, physicians, and surgical staff, assisting in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative tasks.
Essential Functions
Qualifications
Technical School completion of a Surgical Technician or OB Technician training program required0-1 years of experience as an OB Technician, Surgical Technician, or in a related healthcare role required1-2 years of experience in labor and delivery, obstetric surgery, or women’s health services preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in obstetric and surgical procedures, including sterile technique, instrument handling, and patient positioning.Strong knowledge of infection control, sterilization, and disinfection processes for obstetric and surgical equipment.Ability to anticipate surgical team needs, ensuring smooth and efficient procedural flow.Effective communication and teamwork skills, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and surgical staff.Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols, including proper specimen handling, equipment operation, and surgical counts.Knowledge of AORN and hospital policies related to obstetric and surgical procedures.Licenses and Certifications
BCLS - Basic Life Support requiredCST - Certified Surgical Technologist preferred
