The Neurosurgery/Spine Program provides care for patients with spinal disorders throughout the continuum of care – both pre-operatively and post operatively on an Inpatient Spine unit. The spine patient population requires inpatient and outpatient clinical nursing expertise to support their continuum of care needs and monitor outcomes. Program development, research and education are significant requirements of the nursing role to support future development, scientific inquiry and evidence informed practice across this patient population's continuum of care.
The Nurse Practitioner (Adult) will provide focused, holistic clinical care in the inpatient and outpatient settings to patients with spinal conditions, such as neoplasms, Traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, cerebral and spinal hemorrhage and infection. The position involves monitoring patient status and following up on spinal treatments. The NP will play a significant role in program development, research, education and consultation. Additional accountabilities may be negotiated with NP and program leadership as this program develops.

1. Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse, Extended Class with Nurse Practitioner (Adult)
2. Masters Degree in Nursing and/or equivalent graduate Degree
3. Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience supporting a population of acute neuroscience patients
4. Demonstrated experience in research and program development
5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and competency to work within interprofessional teams
6. Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills
7. Demonstrated ability to promote professional development in nursing
8. Eligible for Faculty appointment with McMaster University
