Health Systems Strengthening UnitNURSE MENTOR


PURPOSE:

The Health Systems Trust (HST) wishes to appoint a Nurse Mentor (Professional Nurse) for a health systems strengthening Global Fund project to support the maternal, child and women's health (MCWH) programme in eThekwini district. The Nurse Mentor will provide onsite training and mentorship to facility staff and mentor mothers on Vertical Transmission Prevention (VTP) and MCWH-related topics.

This is a fixed-term contract position renewable based on continuation of funding and performance.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership         

Staff management to oversee Mentor to Mothers programme to ensure VTP is running efficientlyConduct monthly meetings (or as needed) with staff to determine programme progress and to make recommendations for optimised and integrated service deliveryReview and manage performance of mentor mothers once a month or as neededEnsure synergy and integration between all relevant programme components of VTP; MCWH, SRH, EPI, IMCI and PrEPCapacity building of the professional nurses and other relevant categories as needed.

Communication

Compile monthly reports for submission to the line managerCompile and share the training and mentorship schedule with the mentees and line managerOffer one on one mentorship to Professional Nurses and other categories based on identified need

Stakeholder relations

Participate in district meetings and engagements such as MCWH, HAST, Operation Phutuma Nerve Centres, QIP and Global Alliance initiativesCollaborate with the district training centre to conduct relevant trainingsConduct weekly mentorship in facilities.

Reporting & Monitoring

Collaborate with M&E Officers to develop monthly data reviewsInterrogate monthly data prior to monthly data review meetings with data and QI teamsVerify weekly/monthly data shared with data teamDiscuss any identified challenges with data team and line manager early
REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

Basic Qualification in Nursing. Four-year Diploma or a Nursing Degree (Midwifery is essential).Post Basic Qualifications in Nursing EducationTraining in NIMART and PMTCT, Integrated Management of Childhood Diseases (IMCI); SRH; Adult Primary Care (APC); PrEP Mentorship Annual Practicing Certificates from SANC.

Experience and competencies

At least five years' experience as a professional nurse in Primary Health Care or in HIV, TB and MCHAt least three years' experience in mentorship and management of staff.Demonstrated experience in training and capacity building in the HIV and MCWH field.Good understanding and experience in using one of the following NDoH information management systems: District Health Information System (DHIS), Tier.Net and Electronic Drug Resistance Register (EDRWEB) would be an added advantage.Proficiency in Microsoft Packages. Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.A valid driver's license is essential.

 

REMUNERATION
The salary package for this position based on Global Fund requirements is R 385,917.00 to R 514,407.60 as the Total Cost to Company.
