An opportunity exists for a dynamic, mission-driven Executive Director to lead and manage operations, drive member and sponsor engagement, and support the Board in achieving strategic goals.

Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative officer of the chapter and reports to the Board of Directors. This role oversees daily operations, financial management, communications, membership engagement, programming, sponsor relations, and board support. Working closely with a committed volunteer board and committee chairs, the Executive Director delivers programs and initiatives aligned with the chapter’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Mission and Strategy

Align programming and operations with the chapter’s mission and strategic goals

Collaborate with the Board to define and implement strategic priorities

Evaluate initiative effectiveness and recommend improvements

Board Partnership

Serve as the primary liaison to the Board

Organize Executive Committee and Board meetings, including agendas and reports

Assist in board development, governance, and succession planning

Participate in the annual board retreat and maintain key orientation materials

Communications and External Relations

Manage internal and external communications and uphold brand standards

Promote events, initiatives, and member benefits through targeted outreach

Cultivate partnerships with national AIA, sponsors, allied organizations, and the public

Review and refine communication strategies annually

Membership Engagement

Serve as the point of contact for current and prospective members

Collaborate with the Membership Committee on recruitment and retention

Monitor and report on membership metrics and engagement trends

Ensure a high-quality member experience

Program Oversight

Partner with committees and board members to develop accredited programming

Manage the chapter calendar to ensure impact and accessibility

Support continuity for signature events such as awards ceremonies, outings, and special celebrations

Launch new initiatives aligned with strategic priorities

Fundraising and Financial Management

Work with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper on fiscal management

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning

Foster sponsor relationships and seek new funding opportunities

Track revenue and participation metrics

Ensure financial compliance and timely filings

Operations Management

Oversee contract document sales and inventory

Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements

Foster a collaborative and transparent organizational culture

Coordinate with peer Executive Directors for knowledge exchange and development

Qualifications

Demonstrated leadership in a nonprofit, membership-based, or professional association

Strong financial management and budgeting skills

Excellent written and verbal communication

Strategic and organized with strong project management capabilities

Experience working with boards and volunteer leaders

Familiarity with the architecture or AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) sector is advantageous

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CAE designation preferred
