SALARY RANGE: $125k - $187k

 

 

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Non-destructive Evaluation Engineer III located at the NSWC Carderock Facilities in West Bethesda, MD. Astrion has worked extensively with the team at NSWC Carderock where it has earned a reputation for on-time delivery of high-quality products tailored to the needs of its clients.  

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics

Professional Knowledge:

Demonstrated knowledge of Navy and commercial Nondestructive Testing & Evaluation (NDT&E) specifications, including:

NAVSEA T9074-AS-GIB-010-271 (Nondestructive Testing Methods)

MIL-STD-2035 (Nondestructive Testing Acceptance Criteria)

ASNT SNT-TC-1A (Personnel Qualification and Certification in Nondestructive Testing)

NAVSEA 250-1500-1 (Nondestructive Examination Requirements)

MIL-STD-2132 (Nondestructive Examination Requirements for Special Applications)

Experience:

Subject matter expertise and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the concepts, practices, and theories of one or more NDT&E methods, including but not limited to:

Visual Testing (VT)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Radiographic Testing (RT)

Eddy Current Testing (ET)

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

Eddy Current Array Testing (ECA)

Computed Tomography (CT)

Computed Radiography (CR)

Digital Detector Array Radiography (DDAR)

Acoustic Emission (AE)

Infrared Thermography (IRT)

Terahertz Imaging

Full Matrix Capture (FMC)

Technical Skills:

Working knowledge of the engineering and research design process, including experimental design and trade-off studies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

Master’s degree in engineering or physics.Nondestructive Testing (NDT) certifications to NAVSEA T9074-AS-GIB-010/271 or American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) nondestructive testing methodologies are preferred.Experience evaluating risk with nondestructive testing and evaluation decisions for nonconformance to specifications and non-standard applications of nondestructive testing methods.Familiarity with probability of detection (POD) methodologies in Nondestructive Evaluation System Reliability Assessment (MIL-HDBK-1823A) or similar.Familiarity with modeling and simulation of NDT.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement methods for non-destructive evaluation (NDE) to inspect materials and structures for defects without causing damage

Select and operate appropriate NDE equipment and technologies

Analyze inspection data and document findings accurately

Develop and refine new NDE techniques to improve inspection capabilities

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support test and evaluation plans for new and existing designs

Work independently and provide supervision or guidance to a team or group as needed

Support occasional travel requirements

Provide ad-hoc support as required
