Job Title: NICET II Transportation Construction InspectorJob Description The NICET II Transportation Construction Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring that roadway, bridge, and highway construction projects adhere to design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This position involves field inspections, materials verification, documentation, and coordination with contractors, engineers, and state or local transportation agencies. Responsibilities + Perform daily field inspections on roadway, bridge, and highway construction activities to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract documents. + Monitor construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregates, reinforcing steel, and structural components for proper installation and quality. + Verify grades, elevations, and layout using surveying tools and construction drawings. + Document all field activities, including work progress, test results, deficiencies, and contractor operations, using standardized reporting systems. + Observe structural work such as formwork, rebar placement, concrete pours, structural steel erection, and bridge deck construction. + Ensure work zone safety compliance, including traffic control setups, signage, and worker protection measures. + Coordinate and witness materials testing, including compaction tests, concrete sampling, asphalt density checks, and soil classification. + Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, engineers, and DOT representatives regarding project status and issues. + Identify non-conforming work and assist in resolving construction problems through field adjustments or corrective actions. + Maintain accurate project records for audits, pay estimates, and project closeout. Essential Skills + NICET Level II certification in Transportation Construction Inspection (or actively pursuing). + Experience with roadway, bridge, or civil infrastructure construction. + Strong understanding of DOT standards, specifications, and construction best practices. + Ability to read and interpret construction plans, cross-sections, specifications, and shop drawings. + Familiarity with materials testing procedures and inspection tools. + Strong written and verbal communication skills. + Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with NJDOT and FHWA (federal highway) standards. + Quality assurance and quality inspection expertise. Work Environment The work environment involves on-site work on roadways, meeting with residents, and interfacing with clients. The role requires the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Mount Laurel, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
