Network Systems Specialist - Backup Administrator
**CTG is seeking to fill a Network Systems Specialist – Backup Administrator position for our client.** **Location:** Buffalo, NY **Duration:** Client Permanent Placement **Duties:** + Provide a full range of technical services for infrastructure technologies, including servers and SAN environments, covering setup, configuration, implementation, security, system traffic analysis, capacity planning, and daily operations. + Serve as the primary enterprise backup administrator. + Administer and support Veeam and Commvault enterprise backup platforms. + Manage and schedule backups to ensure timely and reliable data protection. + Monitor backup jobs, investigate failures, and implement corrective actions. + Verify backup integrity and perform restore operations (file-level, application-level, and VM-level) as required. + Troubleshoot backup and recovery issues under defined SLAs. + Maintain backup documentation, operational runbooks, logs, and audit/compliance records. + Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to ensure backup solutions align with business continuity and disaster recovery objectives (RTO/RPO). + Support small infrastructure-related projects and ongoing system operations. **Skills:** + Hands-on administration of enterprise backup and recovery solutions, specifically Commvault and/or Veeam Backup & Replication. + Strong understanding of backup methodologies, retention policies, and restore operations. + Experience monitoring backups, troubleshooting failures, and executing restores in production environments. + Administration experience in virtualized environments (VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V). + Working knowledge of Windows Server environments; familiarity with Linux systems supporting repositories or hardened backup targets. + Knowledge of SAN/NAS storage technologies, disk-based repositories, and backup capacity planning. + Understanding of disaster recovery practices, backup verification, and restore testing. + Familiarity with security practices including patching, access controls, and vulnerability remediation related to backup infrastructure. + Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. **Experience:** + Minimum of 3+ years of experience in backup administration or infrastructure support roles supporting enterprise environments. **Education:** One of the following is required: 1. Master’s degree and two (2) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking, or computer systems security; or 2. Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking, or computer systems security; or 3. Associate’s degree and six (6) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking, or computer systems security; or 4. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and eight (8) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking, or computer systems security. Degrees must be granted by an accredited college, university, or recognized educational institution. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Advanced experience with Commvault Enterprise environments, including policy design, storage configuration, and reporting. + Advanced Veeam features such as scale-out repositories, replication, and enterprise monitoring. + Commvault Certified Professional (CCP) and/or Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certifications. + VMware, Microsoft, or storage-focused infrastructure certifications. + Experience backing up databases and enterprise applications (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle). + Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell or shell scripting). + Exposure to hybrid or cloud-integrated backup architectures and object storage tiering. + Strong communication skills when working with infrastructure, application, security, and audit teams. The expected base salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $110,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
