Position Summary
As a Network Specialist within CBN’s Corporate Information Systems group, you will play a pivotal role in designing, maintaining and securing our global network infrastructure. You will be a part of a high performing team responsible for managing enterprise-level networks and firewalls and ensuring that they remain highly secure and available. In this position you will also make significant contributions to advancing our technology roadmap, enhancing automation, and optimizing service delivery.
Core Responsibilities
Install, configure, and manage local and global LAN/WAN/WiFi infrastructure, including switches, routers (OSPF/BGP), firewalls (Fortigate), wireless access points, communication links, edge routers, IDS/IDP appliances and VOIP/PBX systems.Install, configure, manage and administer firewalls in accordance with CBN’s ITSG zoning standards and security principles.Develop detailed network topology diagrams that illustrate all devices and connections, providing clear visualization for infrastructure planning and future expansion.Configure intrusion detection/prevention systems and antivirus solutions to safeguard the network against cyber threats.Diagnose, isolate, and resolve all network-related incidents affecting availability, performance, or security, while ensuring root cause analysis is performed to prevent recurrence.Resolve network issues through device reconfiguration, hardware replacement, and software updates, and document all troubleshooting procedures for future use.Monitor network traffic to maintain optimal bandwidth utilization by identifying and mitigating bandwidth-heavy activities, ensuring consistent network performance.Assess the current network infrastructure to identify areas for improvement or expansion, researching emerging technologies and developing plans for future growth and perform network upgrades by deploying new hardware or software and conducting routine maintenance to ensure stability and peak performance.Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams and business units—including system administrators and software developers—to ensure the network infrastructure meets organizational requirements and supports critical operations and strategic objectives.Lead or participate in network projects—including infrastructure upgrades and new system implementations—while providing architecture, design, and consultation services to CBN business units as neededVarious other responsibilitiesQualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Legally eligible to work in Canada.Fluency in English (read, write, speak).Able to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Secret level clearance.10+ years of progressive experience in network administration.NSE4 certification (or willingness to attain it within 6 months).Advanced knowledge of network design and architecture; network security principles; performance optimization; automation; troubleshooting.Strong critical thinking (analysis, problem solving) skills; effective interpersonal (communication, relationship building) skills.Able to work an on-call rotation (~1 week/month)Able to work overtime/outside of standard business hours as required.Able to stand/walk for prolonged periods; lift/carry up to 50 lbs; work in confined spaces (stoop, crawl); work at heights (ladders); possess fine motor skills/manual dexterity.Able to travel between CBN sites in the National Capital Region on short notice.Able to travel approx. 2-4 weeks/year (on average).Preferred Qualifications
