The Network Administrator serves as a key member of a large Network Operations team supporting a forward-deployed austere site. This role provides the full suite of LAN/WAN/ICAN services to a large and frequently changing user base, including routing and switching configuration, COMSEC support, VoIP provisioning, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of network services across the customer environment.

The network environment predominantly utilizes Juniper platforms, though a working knowledge of Cisco technologies is beneficial to support remaining legacy systems and long-term interoperability requirements. The Network Administrator collaborates closely with ISP/OSP technicians to plan and execute network installation tasks across local and remote sites. All activities must be performed with strict adherence to DoD cybersecurity and configuration-management standards.


MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a Network Administrator Senior, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of U.S. Army Europe and AFRICOM by supplying mission command support.

Installs, configures, and maintains Juniper routing and switching platforms using current JUNOS software, with the ability to support Cisco network devices and IOS-based configurations for legacy and interoperability requirements.

Configures and troubleshoots Juniper routing protocols and services (OSPF, BGP), and provides support for Cisco routing technologies, including EIGRP, where required.

Provides network maintenance and O&M across the LAN/WAN/ICAN environment, ensuring equipment is properly patched, updated, and compliant with DoD cybersecurity requirements.

Works closely with OSP/ISP technicians to support Inside Plant (ISP), Outside Plant (OSP), cabling, trenching, and infrastructure installation tasks across both local and remote sites.

Assists with copper and fiber cabling repair, fabrication, and installation, including patch panels, MDF/IDF builds, CAT5/6 terminations, RJ-11/RJ-45, and related components.

Installs and maintains media converters, fiber/copper modems, and UPS systems, ensuring proper performance and alignment with mission requirements.

Installs all copper and fiber infrastructure in accordance with DoD TEMPEST standards, Army Guide 3.15 General Cable Specifications, and NSTISSI Protected Distribution System (PDS) guidelines.

Performs copper and fiber testing, including signal integrity, continuity, throughput, and degradation analysis.

Terminates and splices copper and fiber optic cables, ensuring clean, standards-compliant installations.

Ensures all network devices remain IAVA/IAVM-compliant, properly patched, and aligned with cybersecurity directives.

Creates and updates network documentation, including network diagrams, rack elevations, and supporting artifacts using Microsoft Visio and/or PowerPoint.

Maintains technical proficiency, staying current with technologies and ensuring all required certifications remain valid.

Performs additional duties as required to support mission needs and evolving customer requirements.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education: Bachelors Degree (additional years of experience can be substitute for degree requirement)

Experience: 5+ years of related experience

Technical skills: Experience provisioning and maintaining VoIP devices; Experience ensuring network devices remain IAVA/IAVM compliant and troubleshooting deficiencies to determine effective mitigation strategies; experience with TACLANE, cryptographic key management, and secure communications troubleshooting; Knowledge of WAN circuits and experience with MPLS transport 

Security clearance level: Active Secret Clearance with a T5/SSBI investigation (required).

US citizenship required

Role requirements:

DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification required on Day 1 (Security+ CE minimum).

Juniper certification required (JNCIA-Junos or JNCIS-Junos), aligned with the current Juniper-based infrastructure.

Cisco certifications desired  CCNA preferred; CCNP a plus or proven experience supporting Cisco platforms.

Must obtain ITIL Foundation certification within 90 days of hire.

Project Management certification preferred (Project+, CAPM, PMP).

Ability to successfully complete the Cisco Collaboration Core (CLCOR) exam to support VoIP related requests.
