Our client is seeking a motivated collaborative Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer to join their Composite Materials and Nondestructive Evaluation Team in Mesa, Arizona. This is a contract role for 12 months.
The Materials and Processes Technologies (M&PT) Department is seeking a high-performing associate, experienced or senior Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer to join our team. The NDE Engineer will work independently as well as in teams and will apply knowledge of materials and processes in various engineering and manufacturing disciplines. This engineer will provide technical support for non-destructive inspection of various composites and metals structures in support of a variety of fixed wing, rotorcraft and proprietary program platforms. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient production of our world-class aerospace products, including advanced platforms for our Air Proprietary programs.

Position Responsibilities:
• Reviews and interprets ultrasonic inspection results
• Designs reference standards for inspections
• Develops NDT inspection plans and sequencing
• Reviews/approves internal and supplier inspection techniques
• Develops and qualifies NDT inspections
• Qualifies NDT inspection equipment
• Develops and maintains proficiency in NDE Methods relevant to their role (eg Ultrasonics, Radiography, Eddy Current, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant)
• Assists with or defines requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
• Drafts or produces engineering specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
• Interfaces across multiple engineering teams to align on inspection requirements and capabilities, inspection feasibility, design for inspection, inspection method selection, and interpretation and evaluation of data
• Assists with certification and qualification of NDE equipment
• Supports NDE specialists with development, qualification and deployment of new inspection processes (gauge R&R, PODs) including standardization, documentation and training
• Supports root cause and corrective action of NDT related MRB to eliminate repetitive rework and continuously improve existing techniques balancing technical product, cost, and schedule
• Supports and assess NDT evaluation technologies in support of new and existing programs and improve manufacturing process inspection using NDT methods
• Compiles reports to document activities such as evaluations, results, interpretations and new procedures
• Develops computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
• Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
• Works with the direction/mentorship of Principal/Senior Nondestructive Evaluation engineers to develop, certify, qualify, and implement Nondestructive Evaluation technologies across the enterprise
• Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
• Promotes standardization across business activities
• Implements corrective and preventive actions
• Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements. Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
• Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
• Works independently with the direction/mentorship of Principal/Senior Nondestructive Evaluation engineers to develop, certify, qualify, and implement Nondestructive Evaluation technologies across the enterprise
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. . “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
• 3+ years of experience working in Nondestructive Evaluation
Preferred Skills:
• 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• ASNT Level 2 or 3 certifications in UT, RT, MT, PT or ET
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to convey technical and conceptual material to individuals at all levels within and outside of organization
• Functional knowledge of instruments, systems, and software used for ultrasonic inspection of composites using manual or automated pulse echo, through transmission, pitch-catch, and phased array techniques
• Functional knowledge of instruments, systems, and software used for magnetic particle, penetrant and eddy current inspection
• Functional knowledge of instruments, systems, and software used for radiographical inspection
• Knowledge of reference standard development and fabrication
• Experience with robotics, 3D modeling, 3D printing, Computed Tomography (CT), and/or Ultrasonic Phased Array
• Experience working in an engineering or scientific lab
• Experienced reading drawings and using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
