Position Summary

 

 

The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Duties include but are not limited to:

Measures and interprets patients’ heart rhythm  Builds a report consisting of a baseline strip for each shift and any ectopy in BedMaster for approval and submission into the EMR by the RN  Initiates and discontinues monitoring on admission, transfer, or discharge Performs configuration as necessary  Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer, and discharge, of patient information from Central Telemetry Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm 8. Orients and mentors new staff members Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both Central Telemetry and clinical areas Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Biomedical Engineering as appropriate 11. Gives report to oncoming shift Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry box, lead wires, and pulse ox  Reports defective equipment and failures to biomedical engineering Adheres to HIPPA compliance of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors 16. Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff Responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.  Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of White Plains Hospital. Performs other duties as requested.  

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:

Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Integrates patient’s rights in to work practice. Utilizes current methods of infection control. Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit based issues. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team. Completes competency requirements. Attends mandatory in-services. Attends staff meetings as required/requested.

 

 

Utilizes cost containment practics. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED. 

Successful completion of Essentials of ECG and Dysrhythmia Monitoring and final exam prior to completion of orientation.  

Possess and maintains current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health care Providers (must be completed during orientation). 

Knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology of the heart. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clinicians, and the general public. Ability to work under moderate pressure for extended periods of time. Ability to accept responsibility for accuracy and response times to emergent and non-emergent requests. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
