Job Title: Mold Designer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mold Designer with extensive experience in plastic injection molds within the automotive industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to develop cooling and ejection systems, verify mechanisms, and ensure that mold designs meet customer and internal standards.

Responsibilities

Verify that mechanisms function properly within the design.Apply customer or internal standards to mold design.Ensure molds meet customer and try-out locations' press parameters.Incorporate machining and mold making best practices with consideration for cost and timing.Independently attend customer reviews as needed.Interact with internal personnel and customers to ensure quality tooling, including providing documentation for customer approval.Incorporate all customer and internal safety standards into tool designs.Initiate purchase requisitions for block sizes and other purchased components.Identify and communicate hardware/software inadequacies that hinder productivity.Work closely with manufacturing personnel to produce quality and cost-effective tooling.Support and train junior designers.Communicate best practices and lessons learned with the engineering team.Handle challenges such as fluctuating workload, multitasking, and conflicting priorities.Make decisions regarding steel and seal-off conditions, water locations, ejection quantity/size, tool strength, and assembly feasibility.

Essential Skills

6+ years of experience with plastic injection molds in the automotive industry.Strong communication skills for customer-facing interactions.Ability to own designs from concept through final design stages.Experience in CAD for issuing files, BOM, and making minor design changes.Capability to handle engineering changes and design fixes from the production floor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

5+ years of experience with CATIA or NX.Mold making experience.Experience with feasibility studies and advanced feasibility.Surfacing experience.Experience working on the production floor as a mold-maker or in a related role.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Windsor, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.

Workplace Type

This is a fully onsite position in Windsor,ON.
