Schnabel is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our growing Portland office and national mechanical engineering practice. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong multi-disciplinary team. The Portland office of Schnabel focuses on the evaluation and design of mechanical elements for dams, structures, and facilities as well as advancing our practice of risk informed decision making within our dam engineering group. Our mechanical engineering practice covers diverse applications of machine and structural steel design, but specializes in fabricated gates and large valves, design of fish hatcheries, surface water intakes, pump stations, operating equipment, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. **Job Responsibilities:** + Support all phases of a project lifecycle, including investigation, evaluation, analysis, design, and engineering services during construction. + Conduct mechanical analysis, including detailed design calculations and Finite Element Analysis where appropriate. + Analyze and design components related to dams and water infrastructure, including gates, valves, bulkheads, pipelines, pumps, steel fabrications, reinforced concrete, and hydrologic analysis + Prepare technical reports that summarize findings, analysis, and recommendations with clear and logical discussion. + Prepare and review drawing packages and technical specifications suitable for construction. + Perform inspections of hydraulic structures and collect data and measurements in the field. + Prepare 2D design drawings using AutoCAD and 3D design models, see preferred platforms below. + Assist project managers with project coordination and administrative tasks. + Support the preparation of proposals and business development opportunities. + Work as a team member within the Portland office and across other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources. **Required Skills/Experience:** + B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. + PE licensure, or EIT certification with future ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer. + 3+ years of experience in some combination of the following types of water infrastructure projects: + Dams + Hydropower plants + Pumps stations + Intakes + Fish hatcheries + Large diameter pipelines, fittings, pipe supports, and valves + Machine design + Instrumentation and Controls + High proficiency with technical engineering principles and analysis methods. + Proficiency with Bluebeam, Mathcad preferred + Modeling and drafting proficiency in one of the following platforms; Inventor and Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Revit or equivalent. + Excellent oral and written communication skills. + A positive attitude and willingness to work in a team environment. + A strong work ethic, the desire to perform professionally at a high level, and focus on continual self-improvement. + Confidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibility. + Effective time management and interpersonal skills. **Preferred Skills/Experience:** + Perform project management activities including planning and executing work, managing project budgets and schedule, and reviewing and approving invoices. + Develop proposals for new work including scope of work, fee estimates, and client coordination. + Manage infrastructure projects through concept, investigation, design, and construction phases. **Other Requirements:** + Include a cover letter with your resume articulating why you are interested in joining Schnabel and our Portland office. + Ability to perform field work and travel as needed. + Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, credit check. + Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening. The compensation range for this position is between $73,000 to $110,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
