FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX 9 is seeking an experienced Certified Meteorologist to join our award-winning weather team. Our mantra is simple: We Win Weather. This position plays a critical role in delivering accurate, compelling, and life-saving weather coverage across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Minnesota and Upper Midwest weather, thrives during severe weather coverage, and is committed to serving audiences wherever they consume weather—on TV, on streaming platforms, and online.

Key Responsibilities

Forecast and present local weather conditions clearly and accurately for scheduled newscastsTrack and report on severe and breaking weather live, communicating forecast impacts viewers can understandProvide extended and continuous coverage during high-impact weather eventsPrepare and present broadcast-quality weather graphicsDeliver weather content across linear television, station streaming services, and OTT/CTV platformsParticipate in and lead live and on-demand streaming coverage, including continuous weather streams during severe weatherHost and contribute to livestreams on digital platforms such as Facebook Live and social mediaProduce original digital and streaming weather content, including short-form videos and explainersDemonstrate a strong commitment to growing and serving streaming and digital audiencesAd-lib confidently during live broadcasts, streams, and breaking news situationsCollaborate with meteorologists, producers, and digital teams to ensure consistent messagingUphold FOX 9’s commitment to winning weather coverage and public safetyPerform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Certified Meteorologist credential required (CBM or equivalent)Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field3–5 years of professional on-air television meteorology and/or live storm tracking experienceDemonstrated experience covering severe weather events liveStrong knowledge of Minnesota and Upper Midwest weather patternsAbility to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced newsroomWillingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours during severe weather

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a cold-weather and severe-weather marketExperience producing content for streaming and digital platformsStrong social media and livestreaming experienceBackground in innovative or advanced weather presentation

Skills & Abilities

Strong on-air communication and storytelling skillsHigh level of creativity balanced with scientific accuracyCalm, authoritative presence during breaking and severe weatherStrong teamwork and leadership abilitiesAdaptability in high-pressure situations

Technical Skills

Proficiency with broadcast weather systems and storm-tracking technologyExperience creating weather graphics for broadcast and digital platformsFamiliarity with livestreaming tools and workflowsComfort with OTT/CTV platforms and social media publishing

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods during broadcasts and streamingAbility to work long and irregular hours during severe weather coverageAbility to function effectively in a high-pressure newsroom environment

Schedule

Full-time, regular positionWeekend on-air scheduleFlexible hours required, including early mornings, evenings, holidays, and extended severe weather coverage

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $80,000.00-110,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
