**Job Description** **Harborview Medical Center’s Edward Thomas House Medical Respite** has an outstanding opportunity for a **Mental Health Practitioner.** **WORK SCHEDULE** + 40 hours per week + Day Shift **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION** The Edward Thomas House Medical Respite is a unique medical respite harm reduction program that provides shelter care with embedded nursing, mental health, and case management services to an at-risk homeless population. Medical Respite is a part of the Healthcare for the Homeless Network and is supported by funds from multiple sources including King County Public Health, MIDD, and local hospitals. The Edward Thomas House admits patients referred from all King County area hospitals 7 days a week and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The program is operated by Harborview Medical Center (HMC) at an off-site location next to the Harborview emergency department. **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** + Provide outreach and engagement for individuals experiencing homelessness, often with co‑occurring mental health and substance use needs + Conduct psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver ongoing case management + Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, psychiatric consultation, and supervision + Support basic needs such as access to food, clothing, shelter, and medical care + Recommend and monitor psychiatric medications as part of mental health treatment + Deliver patient education tailored to the homeless population + Act as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and supporting client rights + Maintain accurate, legally compliant clinical records + Complete required documentation for grants and program reporting in a timely manner + Respond effectively to crises and emergencies, including calling emergency services when needed + Work collaboratively with Medical Respite staff, clinic teams, and community partners + Build relationships with mental health and social service agencies to coordinate care + Provide consultation, presentations, and in-service trainings; may assist in supervising volunteers or students + Maintain and build clinical competency through ongoing learning **REQUIREMENTS** + A Master’s Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care. + Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. **ABOUT HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER** As the region's only Level I Trauma and verified burn center, Harborview Medical Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility owned by King County and operated by UW Medicine.
