Casper College is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Coach for its Men’s Basketball program, a nationally respected NJCAA Division I program with a proud tradition of success, including 13 NJCAA National Championship Tournament appearances and 12 Region IX Championships throughout its history. Over the past 15 seasons (2010–2024), the Thunderbirds have posted all winning seasons, compiling an outstanding 346–120 (.742) record, reflecting sustained excellence and competitive consistency. The program is committed to regional dominance, national relevance, and the holistic development of student-athletes both on and off the court. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, uphold the program’s legacy, and guide the team toward continued national prominence while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and student success.Summary:
The Men’s Basketball Head Coach position gives direction to coaches, coordinates the activities of the men’s basketball program, and performs various instructional and athletic administrative duties to meet the College’s needs in regards to the Men’s Basketball program. This position is at -will.
Responsibilities:
The Men’s Basketball Head Coach is responsible for the organization of the men’s basketball program and various administrative duties within the Athletics Department. Essential responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, budgeting, athletic academic oversight, off-season functions, and liaison functions. Other responsibilities include instructional functions, athletic administrative functions, athletic marketing and sports information functions, and athletic academic support functions.
Essential Duties:
Coaching:
Organize and conduct practice sessions including individual player skill development
Provide strategic and tactical direction of team during game situations
Provide appropriate athletic training and injury prevention support
Equipment support for athletes
Develop and maintain a culture of accountability
Recruiting:
Identify talent needs for program
Evaluate and contact perspective athletes and parents/guardians
Prepare and make offers in accordance with NJCAA rules
Interact with high school, club, and college coaches to assist with athlete’s transitions into Casper College and into other intercollegiate programs
Travel as required to evaluate prospective athletes
Budgetary Tracking:
Administer and track the operational budget for the Men’s Basketball program with the guidance and direction from the Athletic Director
Track scholarship and recruiting expenditures
In conjunction with the Athletic Director, develop fund requests for Booster Club assistance
Athletic Academic Oversight:
Monitor athletes’ class attendance
Track academic progress toward degree completion by athletes
Develop and implement an academic support system for athletes
Provide academic eligibility and success information to the athletic department and campus administration as needed to comply with the NJCAA rules, state and federal legislative requirements
Off-Season Functions:
Develop and implement off-season conditioning programs
Track athlete involvement with campus and community activities
Maintain regular contact with athletes
Liaison Functions:
Maintain collaborative and positive working relationships within the athletic, administrative, and faculty areas along with other related college support services
Maintain collaborative and positive working relationships with the Booster Club
Participate in fundraising events for the Athletic Department

Work Environment:
Typical work environment is a classroom, office, and athletics facility setting requiring normal safety precautions. Position involves work on different surfaces and in other fitness environments while coaching and training student-athletes. Work is usually performed during the normal workday, however, early morning, late evening and weekend work is required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Frequent overnight travel during the week and on weekends, monthly, throughout the year. Noise levels are usually minimal in office setting, but can be moderate to loud at sporting events.
Physical Demands:
Employee must be able to participate in and lead practices and workouts and to demonstrate appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Must be able to visually monitor athletes and use a loud voice to communicate with athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
A minimum of 5 years prior coaching experience at a High School varsity, collegiate, or professional level
Excellent decision making skills
Excellent organizational and planning skills
Strong communication skills
Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Must be insurable under the College’s insurance plan at the time of hire.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Computer proficiency for word processing, email, and spreadsheets
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in from an accredited institution related field
Demonstrated experience applying strength and conditioning principles to support collegiate basketball student-athlete development and performance
Head coaching experience
Work experience in a community college environment
At least 5 years coaching experience at the collegiate level
