\n\t\t\t\t\tOur promise to farmers is that we will always work toward ensuring a more sustainable future for coffee for all. This short-term position places you at the heart of the coffee business. Working closely with leadership, and with potential external expert support, you will design and build a MEL Framework for our coffee sustainability programs.\n\n• Flexibility and Adaptation – Coffee farming is a dynamic space with multiple challenges facing farmers including changes in climate, coffee tree pests and disease, aging farmer populations, migration to urban areas and economic challenges. To make progress on our coffee sustainability strategy we will need to learn and adapt in real time as we gain insight into new and ever-changing contexts.\nStarbucks coffee sustainability programs and projects are wide ranging and span the globe. Your assignment will be to create the Framework and systems which better enable the Company to:\n• Collect the right information to accurately track progress against our coffee sustainability goals\n• Evaluate and analyze data collected to understand the outcomes, effectiveness and value of our efforts\n• Synthesize learnings to extract insights for continuous improvement, refinement of strategy and accurate story telling\nWe are looking for candidates with MEL experience rooted in the following principles:\n• Partnership – Our many stakeholders including farmers, suppliers, program implementors, and Farmer Support Centers are all key players in providing, collecting, tracking and sharing data. Their input in the design of the MEL Framework is fundamental and we respect the various sources of information they bring forward.\n• Curiosity – Through the development of this MEL Framework we wish to deepen our understanding, challenge perspectives, and question assumptions all with the aim of strengthening the tools we are using to make progress against our sustainability goals.\n\nRequired background? Skills?\n•\t10 years’ experience designing and building MEL frameworks, strategies and systems, ideally in the agriculture space and across varying geographies. \n•\tProven track record and high proficiency in project and consultant management across various stages of project development and implementation (initiating, planning, execution, monitoring and completion).\n•\tProven ability to influence and guide diverse internal and external teams toward achieving common objectives without direct authority, showcasing exceptional collaboration skills. \n•\tDemonstrated ability to act as a central coordinator, quickly identifying connections, efficiencies, and necessary action plans.\n•\tExcellent relationship building and cross functional working skill set.

\n\t\t\t\t\tTeam culture/work environment:\n•\t Mix of tenure on the team\n•\tSplit team between Seattle and Switzerland\n•\tSSC Team of 3, and will be working with global advisors as needed\n•\t\n\nKey projects:\nAll outcomes such as MEL Framework must: \n•\tBe inclusive of and aligned with technical carbon MRV work being done separately with an external partner.\n•\tConsider ease of tech deployment and status of tech (link to potential separate workstream), iterating until both workstreams have a cohesive deployment plan (but need not be completely deployed in the case of tech).\n•\tDovetail with our ongoing review of public commitments \n•\tWhere possible, link to our Capacity Building & Technical Assistance Framework.\n\nDaily Responsibilities:\n•\tCarry out a comprehensive audit of all data being gathered, systems being used for gathering and reporting, and audiences being serviced.\n•\tAssess where datasets may be no longer relevant or need to be revised/strengthened.\n•\tEvaluate current data collection methods and the technologies we are utilizing to advise SBUX on how these can be streamlined, replaced and/or enhanced to make fit for purpose.\n•\tUnderstand and map out (very high level and audience appropriate) Theory of Change (ToC) to accompany the coffee Strategy House.\n•\tBased on coffee ToC & Strategy House, ratify KPIs or identify new metrics that must be collected to meaningfully evaluate, learn and report on our progress. Ensure that public commitments and existing statements e.g. mission, all have relevant proof points to back them up.\n•\tDesign overall coffee sustainability MEL Framework based on indicators, ToC and Strategy House. This should include who collects what data when and for what purpose\n•\tEnsure appropriate SOPs are in place for every data point identified.\n•\tCreate easily understood procedures (handbook) to assure quality, accuracy and reliability of data.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $80.00/hr.
