CVP is seeking Medical Records Technicians to provide comprehensive outpatient medical coding services for our Nation's Veterans at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System. You'll play a vital role in ensuring accurate coding of outpatient medical records to support quality healthcare delivery and proper reimbursement for Veterans' care.

 

As a Medical Records Technician specializing in outpatient coding services, you will review and code outpatient medical records for a complex tertiary-level teaching medical facility. You'll work with healthcare documentation to ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, E&M, and HCPCS guidelines while supporting comprehensive ambulatory care services.

Responsibilities Review and code outpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems with >95% accuracyApply Evaluation and Management (E&M) coding and code procedures for primary care, medical subspecialties, surgical subspecialties, ambulatory surgery, observation, and endoscopyQuery providers via email or VIRR for documentation clarification and ensure 100% data validation of all insured outpatient encountersProcess record coding within seven (7) calendar days with >95% compliance and maintain coding accuracy standardsReview patient records to ensure appropriate documentation and coding, collaborate with healthcare teams for clarificationParticipate in quality assurance activities, monthly audits, and provide performance reports while staying current with regulatory changes Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Health Information Technology preferredCurrent certification required: RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or CPC from AHIMA or AAPCMinimum of three (3) years continuous coding experience in a facility with patient population equal to or exceeding VA's current volumeExperience in tertiary-level teaching medical facility with medical school affiliation preferredProficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, E&M coding, and HCPCS coding systemsKnowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiologyExperience with electronic health records and coding softwareUnderstanding of CMS guidelines and compliance requirementsUS Citizenship required for background investigationProficient in spoken and written English

Required Knowledge Areas:

VA software systems including VIRR and E&M calculator usageInternational Classification of Diseases-Version 10 (ICD-10) for diagnosis codingCurrent Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)Evaluation and Management coding guidelinesUnderstanding of ambulatory care and outpatient procedures

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Central Time
