Are you an experienced media professional with a passion for helping to change the lives of children and families across Wales?
At Barnardo's, we're looking for a passionate and creative person to join our busy media and communications team as our Media and Communications Lead for Cymru and South West England. You'll be helping us shape the national conversation around the issues that matter most to children and young people.
Your week might be spent gearing up for a major media campaign to help improve the lives of children, you might be heading to a local Barnardo's service to make sure children's voices are heard in local media – or you might be prepping our regional director for a challenging live interview. You'll also be leading on a national portfolio area for Barnardo's across the UK.
Whatever you're doing, you'll be finding bold, creative ways to position Barnardo's as a thought leader and trusted voice on the challenges facing children and young people today. If that sounds like an exciting prospect for you, please get in touch!
We're looking for a highly motivated individual who is creative, strategic and results driven.
You'll have great news sense and will be as comfortable working with social media as you are developing compelling stories for hard-hitting newspaper articles and broadcast channels.
You will work collaboratively within the media and communications team across Barnardo's to promote our work in Wales and South West England. You will also be a key player linking our policy campaigns, children's services, fundraising, retail and corporate activity alongside external stakeholders.
A key part of the role is to actively gather stories to bring to life the work of Barnardo's. Strong relationships need to be formed with Barnardo's Children's Services to ensure a regular flow of stories that help us explain the work we do and the people we support.
Experience of working in a fast-paced press office or public relations function is essential, as well as the ability to use social media channels to contribute to social content across a variety of platforms. Knowledge, experience and understanding of issues affecting Wales is essential, relationships with local journalists and press outlets highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be required to handle sensitive, confidential issues and work out-of-hours on a duty rota.
