Mechanical Project Engineering Supervisor

Our client is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineering Supervisor to lead a team of Designers and Design Engineers supporting large-scale industrial equipment/construction projects. This role is based in Owatonna, MN and offers a hybrid work schedule, balancing in-office collaboration with work-from-home flexibility.

This position is ideal for a senior mechanical engineer ready to step into a people and project leadership role while remaining technically involved. The supervisor acts as the quarterback for engineering execution, overseeing how projects are assigned, staffed, and carried out within customer facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Mechanical Designers and Design Engineers Assign and manage engineering projects within the project management system Serve as the primary point of coordination for how engineering work is executed at customer sites Support the bid and proposal process, including preliminary engineering input and feasibility reviews Once a bid is awarded, evaluate project scope and assign work to appropriate engineers and designers Oversee and support the development of AutoCAD drawing sets following awarded bids Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, schedule, and customer requirements Collaborate closely with Sales, Project Management, and Manufacturing teams Provide technical guidance, problem-solving support, and workload balancing for the teamQualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is nice to have, but will consider candidates without a degree as long as they have 5 years of experience in the field. 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably with large-scale equipment or construction industry background Prior experience working with AutoCAD (hands-on or oversight level) Strong understanding of engineering workflows from bid phase through execution Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects and prioritize resources Interest in or early experience with technical leadership or supervision Strong communication and decision-making skillsPreferred Experience Experience leading or mentoring engineers or designers Exposure to customer-facing engineering projects Background in industrial machinery, capital equipment, or custom-engineered systemsWhy This Role Hybrid work schedule with consistent in-office collaboration days Opportunity to step into engineering leadership without leaving the technical world behind High-visibility role influencing how major projects are executed Stable product line focused on large-scale industrial equipment Clear path to broader engineering management opportunities
