The Mechanical Project Engineer will focus on handling Machine Modification Requests (MMRs) within various plant areas, including maintenance, quality, engineering, and safety. The role primarily involves reviewing machine design builds and layout plans in a cubicle setting, with occasional plant walkthroughs to gain a visual understanding of facility and machine requirements for capital improvement projects. The engineer will collaborate with other engineers but will not have managerial responsibilities. A solid understanding of CAD layouts is essential, although most design work will be pre-completed. Projects range from $20,000 to $20 million.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and redesign manufacturing equipment for process improvement, scrap reduction, quality, and safety, covering a variety of rubber manufacturing technologies such as extrusion lines, mills, calendars, and raw materials mixing.Design and retrofit hardware to update legacy manufacturing equipment to meet current environmental standards, focusing on VOC emission reduction.Provide timelines, Bills of Materials (BOMs), cost estimates, and detailed Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for new capital investment projects.Extensive project management, including authoring bid specifications and installation procedures for new manufacturing equipment, and managing design and project reviews with suppliers in Europe and America.Serve as a CAD hardware and software technical liaison to department heads, facilitating the transition from legacy systems to current industry standards and developing document management strategies for new data formats.Utilize Solidworks for 3D modeling and 2D drawing software.Use AutoCAD 2012 for 2D legacy drawings for maintenance and vendor support.Essential Skills5-7+ years of experience in designing and redesigning manufacturing equipment for process improvement, scrap reduction, quality, and safety.Experience with capital equipment upgrades, start-ups, and installations.Proficiency in AutoCAD 2012 and a 3D Modeling tool, with Solidworks preferred.Minimum Associate’s Degree in an engineering-related field.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with rubber manufacturing technologies such as extrusion lines, mills, calendars, and raw materials mixing.Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is preferred.Work EnvironmentThe end client is a light to heavy-duty rubber tire manufacturer operating as a UNION facility, featuring a vertically integrated process that mixes rubber, extrudes, presses, and fully assembles tires. The Project Engineering Group is located on the 2nd floor near the plant floor. The work environment requires steel-toed shoes and other personal protective equipment (PPE), with tasks performed both on the plant floor and in the office, varying daily. A business casual dress code is observed, allowing jeans. The company provides a phone, desk, computer, and all necessary materials. The candidate should be personable and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
