About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Mechanical Project Engineer to lead complex engineering projects from concept through commissioning. This position plays a key role in designing power plants, developing mechanical specifications, managing vendors and contractors, and ensuring successful on-site execution. The ideal candidate thrives in both office and field environments and brings deep technical expertise in mechanical and utility-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
+ Manage projects from inception to completion, including proposal meetings, equipment specification development, and cost estimation.
+ Review contracts and convert requirements into detailed technical specifications.
+ Coordinate vendor information, conduct vendor visits, and oversee contractor equipment shipments to project sites.
+ Lead troubleshooting efforts once equipment is delivered and installed.
+ Review, interpret, and validate mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications.
+ Support the Project Engineer with schedule management and cost approvals.
+ Provide technical input during design phases and perform technical and commercial evaluations of mechanical systems.
+ Specify, evaluate, and approve mechanical materials and equipment to ensure timely procurement.
+ Supervise on-site mechanical installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
+ Ensure all mechanical work complies with local and international codes, standards, and best practices.
+ Conduct inspections, tests, and quality checks throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to align construction activities with project goals.
+ Prepare and deliver progress updates, technical reports, and documentation for stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications
+ Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
+ equipment design, site management, and P&ID.
+ Proficiency in mechanical engineering for power plants, gas turbines, and utility construction.
+ Full project lifecycle experience on utility-scale projects (power plants, gas turbines, chemical plants).
+ Ability to read, write, and interpret detailed design specifications.
Additional Skills & Preferred Experience
+ Experience with piping design, pump sizing/calculations, and tank design.
+ Knowledge of cathodic protection systems.
+ Familiarity with PFD and P&ID drawings.
+ Understanding of fuel tank systems and mechanical system integration.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glastonbury, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.88 - $62.50/hr.
