As a Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers responsible for designing structures made of sheet metal and 3D printed plastic to house compute and storage servers and other electronic sub-systems. These servers must operate reliably under diverse environmental conditions in compliance with customer requirements and military standards. You will need a diverse set of technical, managerial, project, and people management skills, along with flexibility and agility to respond to wide-ranging customer demands, including technical and schedule challenges.
ResponsibilitiesLead, manage, and mentor a team with diverse backgrounds, fostering creativity and a 'can do' spirit.Develop a deep understanding of team members' skills, experience, and personalities to assign work effectively.Hold periodic meetings to maintain situational awareness and manage resources to meet schedule milestones.Track and oversee all projects, ensuring they stay on schedule and within budget, taking corrective actions as needed.Review and critique technical drawings, organizing peer reviews to identify and mitigate design risks.Assist team members with design work as needed to maintain project momentum.Ensure adherence to ISO design procedures and promote best design practices.Facilitate seamless transfer of mechanical design data to Manufacturing Engineering and foster collaboration.Conduct technical and project management briefings for customers and maintain relationships with vendors.Conduct annual performance reviews and handle administrative duties such as pay reviews and travel authorizations.Ensure compliance with security procedures and proactively prevent security issues.Essential SkillsProven experience leading and managing teams of Mechanical Engineers.Experience designing mechanical enclosures for electronic components to meet MIL-STD requirements.Familiarity with MIL-STD 810G/H testing procedures and related facilities, equipment, and tools.Experience in electronic packaging, electro-mechanical design, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D modeling.Ability to interpret customer ideas into product design requirements and recommend design changes.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to multitask effectively and handle multiple priorities.BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.U.S. Citizenship.Additional Skills & QualificationsSECRET or higher clearance strongly preferred.Work EnvironmentThis position requires full-time presence in our state-of-the-art 108,000 square foot facility at Innovation Park in Manassas, Virginia. The facility supports advanced technology for military platforms, including rugged field computers and networking, compute, and storage systems. Professional appearance and attitude are expected.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $72.00 - $89.00/hr.
