Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Focus for buildings

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with 3-8 years of experience in designing HVAC systems for commercial, retail, residential, and institutional projects. This role will primarily focus on project management across all trades, without direct management of lower-level staff. The ideal candidate will participate in weekly calls and contribute to proposals and mid-level project tasks. Proficiency in AutoCAD is required, with Revit being a plus. Candidates should possess an EIT certification, while a PE license is desirable.

Responsibilities

Document project status through calls and task management.Assist in design phases from schematic to surveying, expediting, and filing with the Department of Buildings.Conduct site visits for surveying renovation projects and monitoring ongoing construction.Manage the design process and coordination of plumbing, sprinkler, and fire alarm trades.Ensure familiarity with filing procedures.

Essential Skills

Design expertise in HVAC systems for diverse projects including commercial, retail, residential, and institutional.Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience is a plus.EIT certification required; PE license desirable.Ability to design VRF systems, hydronic heating systems, ventilation systems, and air filtration systems.Experience with chiller plant design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with mechanical design in brownstones, townhomes, hospitality, educational, exhibit/park, and apartment settings.Ability to write due diligence reports and system comparison analyses for MEP/SP/FA building systems.Administrative skills in coordinating design documents across trades, managing project fees, and reviewing project billing.Capability to document employee performance and provide improvement suggestions.

Work Environment

The position is based in a small, dynamic 8-person office located in Stamford, CT, within a short walking distance from the train station. The work schedule is typically 5 days a week in the office, with the potential for one remote day depending on the candidate. The workload is generally 35-40 hours per week, promoting a balanced work-life experience. The role involves working across all MEP trades in a busy yet collaborative environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
