Mechanical Engineer
Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description This role involves serving as both a Mechanical Engineer and a Technical Safety Engineer. You will collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Technical Leaders, and cross-functional teams to enhance the vision of the Mechanical group. Your role will include providing insights and ideas for process improvements, standards, best practices, and tools, focusing on safety considerations to boost team effectiveness and efficiency. Responsibilities + Educate and guide engineers on the identification and application of lasers. + Maintain FDA laser compliance. + Educate and guide engineers to design with safety considerations. + Conduct and document safety reviews. + Play an active role as a team member in the Mechanical Design Engineering team, contributing expertise, and collaborating effectively with colleagues. + Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross-functional team members to ensure project success, fostering effective communication and teamwork. + Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams, addressing design-related safety and laser issues and ensuring smooth production processes. + Support project status updates, forecasting, and issues/risks to the Project Manager or Team Leads proactively, while proposing developing plans to ensure successful projects. Essential Skills + Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) and Laser Safety Officer (LSO) - or willingness to work towards obtaining. + Mechanical Engineering Degree. + 5+ years of experience in designing automation equipment. + Proficiency in SolidWorks. + Proficiency in FEA simulation. + Ability to travel within the US and Canada. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with laboratory equipment. Work Environment The company is a global automation systems integrator that serves diverse end markets. They design, build, test, and integrate custom solutions to automate their customers’ operations with a focus on solving unique challenges. This position will be part of a team of over 80 engineers, and you will report directly to one of the Mechanical Engineering Managers. The work environment includes an engineering center and a plant located across the parking lot, with another plant located in St. Joseph, about 15 minutes away. Your typical day will involve 75% desk work focused on design and 25% on debugging. Occasionally, you may need to travel for customer installations, though this is rare. You will work approximately 45 hours a week, leading project teams without direct reports. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgman, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
