The Mechanical Designer plays a key role in the development of laser processing equipment by creating detailed mechanical designs and CAD models. This position focuses on translating engineering concepts into manufacturable components and assemblies, supporting product development, and ensuring design accuracy and documentation integrity.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using SolidEdge software.Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to refine concepts and ensure designs meet functional, cost, and manufacturability requirements.Maintain accurate documentation including bills of materials (BOMs), design revisions, and part specifications within the company ERP system.Assist in the selection and specification of mechanical and electro-mechanical components.Support prototype builds and testing by preparing fabrication drawings and coordinating with suppliers.Review customer-specific requirements and contribute to customized design solutions for existing products.Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Service teams during product build and troubleshooting.Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and practices.Create work instructions and contribute to internal training materials related to mechanical design.Essential SkillsProficiency in SolidWorks with at least 2 years of experience, specifically with large capital equipment.Experience in CAD drafting and mechanical drafting.Knowledge of GD&T and bills of materials (BOM).Experience designing, testing, and documenting mechanical solutions for existing equipment or product lines.Experience researching, evaluating, and choosing components for machinery or equipment.Experience creating and testing qualification protocols to validate and verify designs.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with metal fabrication and reverse engineering.Ability to manage change requests and design revisions.Familiarity with creating bills of materials and using proper documentation.Work EnvironmentThe work environment consists of a small to midsize company with about 50 employees. Every product manufactured is custom-designed for various industries. The role involves working closely with customers to develop ideas, create and design CAD models, and test products. Collaboration and innovation are key aspects of the work culture.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
