Mechanical Designer
Job Title: Mechanical DesignerJob Description We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer with strong proficiency in SolidWorks to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings for mechanical components, systems, and products. This role involves collaborating with engineers, manufacturing teams, and stakeholders to develop innovative, manufacturable designs that meet project specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements. Responsibilities + Create and modify detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using SolidWorks. + Develop concepts and optimize designs for functionality, manufacturability (DFM), and cost-effectiveness. + Produce bills of materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and revision histories. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, production, and suppliers, to resolve design issues and ensure feasibility. + Perform design validation, including basic simulations, tolerance analysis, and GD&T application. + Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems. + Maintain CAD files and documentation in PDM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM). + Incorporate feedback from manufacturing and quality teams to refine designs. + Ensure compliance with relevant standards and safety regulations. Essential Skills + Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks for modeling parts, assemblies, design tables, and detailed drawings. + Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Technology, Drafting, or a related field. + Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, with proven hands-on use of SolidWorks. + Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or Associate (CSWA) certification is highly preferred. + Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, sheet metal), and GD&T. + Experience with SolidWorks PDM or similar product data management tools. + Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects. + Strong communication skills for collaborating with teams and presenting design concepts. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Familiarity with DriveWorks is a plus. + Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation) and other CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is a plus. + Electronics packaging or power electronics mechanical design experience. + Rotor dynamics exposure. + Experience designing for harsh or outdoor environments. + Working knowledge of GD&T beyond basic application (e.g., cylindricity). + Background in automotive, motor design, actuators, or turbomachinery industries. + Demonstrated experience with bearings, lubricants/grease selection. + Materials science (plastics, metallics, coatings, chemical resistance). Work Environment Onsite at a Manufacturing/R&D facility. Traditional hours 8/9-5. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
