Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in product development to play a pivotal role in enhancing and standardizing our packaged equipment product lines. These include pump stations, water treatment systems, control panels, power distribution equipment, and other mechanical assemblies. You will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical designs that are robust, repeatable, and manufacturable across a family of standard products. Collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and customers, you will transform ideas and requirements into production-ready designs.

Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical solutions for standard product families and configurable options, ensuring alignment with product requirements, site constraints, and industry standards.Create designs emphasizing manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness across multiple builds.Develop and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, and part drawings using industry-standard CAD tools such as SolidWorks.Generate accurate and comprehensive drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, welding details, and material specifications.Create and update design standards, templates, and libraries for recurring components and assemblies.Generate and maintain clear, structured Bills of Material (BOMs) that accurately reflect product configurations and options.Ensure component compatibility, proper material selection, and alignment with cost and lead-time targets.Create and modify routings to define proper manufacturing steps and estimated time requirements for each product and variant.Participate in product definition and roadmap discussions, providing mechanical input on feasibility, risks, and tradeoffs.Take part in internal design reviews to ensure designs meet performance, safety, manufacturability, and cost goals.Support prototype builds, pilot runs, and early production by resolving fit, form, and function issues directly with manufacturing.Provide clear build documentation, assembly instructions, and mechanical checklists to support consistent manufacturing.Investigate field issues or recurring production problems related to mechanical designs and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.Optimize existing designs for improved manufacturability, reduced cost, simplified assembly, or enhanced serviceability.Update drawings, BOMs, and standards in response to Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to ensure overall product design success.Work with sales, marketing, and customers to understand customer requirements and ensure product configurations meet those needs within the standard platform.Support procurement by providing technical input for component selection, alternative parts, and vendor qualifications.Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable industry standards and codes such as ANSI and UL.Stay current on materials, fabrication techniques, enclosure standards, skid design practices, and mounting methods relevant to packaged industrial equipment.Provide technical assistance during manufacturing and assembly to resolve mechanical issues quickly and accurately.

Essential Skills

Mechanical Design/Drafting degree/certification or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Proven experience (3+ years) in mechanical design or drafting, preferably in an OEM, product development, or industrial equipment environment.Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, structural considerations, and materials.Knowledge of relevant industry and design standards such as ANSI and UL.Experience creating production-ready BOMs, fabrication drawings, and routings.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot design-related issues through analysis and collaboration.Effective written and verbal communication skills to work with cross-functional internal teams and external partners.Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accurate, high-quality design and documentation.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, configurations, and deadlines simultaneously.Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, tools, and a fast-paced product development environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
