**Job Title: Mechanical Assembler**
**Job Description**
As a Mechanical Assembler, you will be responsible for assembling wind turbine power transmissions and their subassemblies. This role requires working from blueprints, parts lists, and assembly cards, and utilizing parts washers, freezers, ovens, cranes, and both hand and power tools. You will also shim and finalize the assembly of gear units, work independently or with other assemblers, and oversee lower-grade assemblers.
**Responsibilities**
+ Learn about gear boxes and all components involved in assemblies and sub-assemblies.
+ Understand pinions, torque arms, ring gears, and other elements of the gear box.
+ Safely operate an overhead crane to lift, hoist, and move gear boxes.
+ Disassemble gear boxes using torque wrenches or impact guns for manual and power tool operations.
+ Read and interpret gear box documentation and step-by-step instructions.
+ Record serial numbers from each part during disassembly to prevent rework.
+ Wash parts to remove wax coating for corrosion protection.
+ Heat parts in an oven for proper gear assembly in the sub-assembly department.
+ Operate the overhead crane to position gear boxes for final assembly before testing.
+ Follow specific customer instructions for gear box addons, using an impact wrench to mount fixtures.
**Essential Skills**
+ Minimum of 1-year experience as an Assembler.
+ Proficiency in using basic hand and power tools.
+ Ability to read blueprints and assembly cards.
+ Basic math skills for tool size and nomenclature understanding.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Experience in construction, carpentry, or auto-maintenance is beneficial.

**Work Environment**
The facility is a modern, clean environment that adheres to 5S principles, ensuring everything is organized and spaced out. It includes departments for new production, wind service, industrial repairs, and logistics. Safety is paramount, with requirements for safety glasses and masks. The facility is well-lit, climate-controlled, and provides team apparel, encouraging a professional yet comfortable dress code. The first shift runs from 6 AM to 2 PM, with two paid 20-minute breaks.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elgin, Illinois.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
