Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Manufacturing Engineer based out of Charlottesville, VA.
What You'll Get To Do:
The Manufacturing Engineer will report directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will support manufacturing programs at the site.
Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, and material handling for primarily wire harnesses, working closely with current ME team.
Design sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of parts, tools, equipment and other functions affecting product performance.
Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. Incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
Investigate, evaluate, improve and harness build processes, to improve time and quality of finished product. Inspect performance of machinery, equipment, tools and final build to verify efficiency and accuracy. Must be able and willing to seek out shop floor feedback regularly to adjust processes accurately and efficiently.
Develop manufacturing processes applying statistical process control. Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensure processes and procedures are compliant with regulations.
Interface directly with and support assemblers, cell supervisors and others in Operations. Must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing manufacturing engineering processes and procedures.
Drive affordability through monitoring of time/budget.
Travel to suppliers as required, to achieve positive outcomes.
Foster a collaborative culture, sustaining momentum around positive engagement, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
Serve as a strong voice for Manufacturing Engineering and a role model for NG Values.
This position is 100% onsite work for floor support; with an onsite start time corresponding to work cell assembler’s start time.
Basic Qualifications for the Manufacturing Engineer:
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing/production, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering OR a Master's degree. Candidates with an Associate's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in manufacturing/production, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering AND candidates with a high school diploma (or GED) and 6 years of relevant experience in manufacturing/production, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering will also be considered.
Experience with wire harnesses, connection, assembly, and troubleshooting.
Experience reading and interpreting wiring schematics.
Experience creating comprehensive work instructions.
Preferred Qualifications for the Manufacturing Engineer:
Experience with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management System certification process
Hands-on experience fabricating, maintaining, repairing, and/or inspecting wire harnesses/electrical systems
IPC 610, 620 and/or J-STD-001 certification
Experience designing and creating manufacturing aids and fixtures
Desire to pursue Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt certification
Experience facilitating Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance
Experience auditing and improving manufacturing processes
Defense industry experience
SAP Business System experience
Software: MPLM and AutoCAD and NX experience
CAD experience
Experience supporting and assisting assemblers and operators
Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and GD&T specifications; reading blueprints and specifications for worn harness parts
Experience with subassembly and final assembly build structure
Experience with Model Based Engineering
Experience with LEAN manufacturing principles
Experience with Corrective Action Requests (CAR) and ability to address and resolve CARs

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
