How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. We are opening a new campus facility that will have two of our businesses (Marley and Ingenia Technologies) evolving and growing together at one site. As Manufacturing engineer on this campus, you will play a crucial role in improving production efficiencies, reducing costs, and enhancing overall manufacturing processes. Key to this role will be to learn in a fast past environment.
Reporting into the Campus Manufacturing engineering manager, this position is also responsible for coordinating projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision. The incumbent will have the opportunity to optimize manufacturing operations through new or improved workplace processes, methods, and layouts. This role requires expertise in statistical analysis, Lean, EHS considerations, CI, including the ability to conduct overall line balancing , develop business cases, create visual factory displays, and make improvement recommendations.

Data Analysis and Recommendations
Analyze reports and data to determine and recommend changes in methods, tooling, and/or equipment to more fully utilize the workforce and increase productivity, quality, and/or product value
Perform detailed statistical analyses, creating logical summaries concerning plant performance and facility layout
Communicate manufacturing metrics (working capital, Raw/WIP/FGI inventory, inventory turns, productivity, efficiency, order fill rate, on-time delivery) in an understandable way
Conduct time studies to gather data to develop accurate rates, analyze line balancing, and provide cost estimates
Collaborate closely with plant management to understand production goals, providing technical guidance and statistical data to assist with decision making (cost standards, variance analysis, budgetary controls, and product cost estimates for new or improved products)
Determine machine and workforce requirements for production, making recommendations to plant management for annual business plans and forecasts
Craft capital appropriation requests with supporting EVA calculations
Design and Technical Expertise
Participate in the design and development of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems
Provide technical expertise to production supervisors and management on methods, time studies, production standards, and workforce practices to maximize efficiency
Investigate current manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve production efficiencies and reduce costs
Collaborating closely with plant management, determine feasibility of proposed projects, providing information for accurate decision making
Design and implement machine/assembly cells and factory layout
Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment for all
3. Project Management:
Coordinate and manage projects related to process improvement, from initial planning stages to successful completion
Working in cross functional teams (production, quality, maintenance), ensure seamless integration of process improvements
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented changes, making adjustments as necessary
Lead teams and give direction to production employees
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in manufacturing technology, proactively recommending relevant improvements
Other projects as assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role
Proven experience designing and implementing machine/assembly cells and factory layouts
Understanding of inventory control techniques and knowledge of implications of BOM accuracy, inventory accuracy, material transactions/movement within plant
Understanding of the process of engineering revisions, change notices, deviations, and impact on manufacturing
Proven knowledge of process improvement methodologies, including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
Strong mathematical ability to explain statistical analysis in simplified, business terms
Proficiency conducting time studies, data analysis, and cost estimation
Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management) and present data and recommendations verbally and in written form to management
Proven experience with one piece flow (balancing, pacing, improved through-put) and visual factory (KPIs, pacing boards, EI)
Familiarity with project management principles and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in software tools such as CAD and statistical analyses software
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports
Ideal Experience & Skills
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role
Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes related to HVAC and heating systems
Experience with design for manufacturing methods
Familiarity with supply chain
Familiarity with MRP planning and production scheduling techniques
Experience with JD Edwards
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt preferred
Travel & Working Environment
Travel will be required at times; Ingenia Headquarter located, QC Canada or other SPX locations such as Charlotte, NC or Overland, KS.
