Job Description

 

Department:   Manufacturing Engineering - Fabrication

FLSA Status:    Exempt

 

Location:    Sedalia, MO

 

Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer will support Fabrication Department production as well as new process development and current process improvement.  Process improvement will focus on improving safety, throughput, and reducing waste.   This position will also be responsible for part quality both within the department and product delivered to customers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Applies technical engineering skillset to analyze process efficiency, troubleshoot defects, perform quality control functions, and drive cost savings in a Fabrication environment.Evaluates, applies, and develops welding specifications in conjunction with Engineering and CWI.Utilize CAD and 3D modeling software (SolidWorks) to design new fixturing and tooling.Create detailed drawings of 3D models (SolidWorks). Create production drawings for the fabricators to use.  These drawings will be used in addition to drawings from Engineering.Analyze current production processes to find waste in the process and develop ways to reduce waste.Ability to quickly adapt to new and changing processes, materials, and production requirements.Demonstrated ability to use and edit complex engineering and process equipment software.Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Must also possess the ability to speak effectively with suppliers, customers, and co-workers.Any other assignments as required.


Environment:

The position will support operations in a Fabrication Department.Common fabrication operations are employed.  These include, but are not limited to:Plasma and Laser cuttingBend and shear operationsGrinding and surface preparation Welding (GMAW, GTAW, SMAR)The facility is a large open bay that is minimally climate controlled (heated in winter).The use of safety glasses and safety shoes is mandatory.  Hearing protection is on an as needed basis.

 

 Required Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering Technology.1 -5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.Proficient with CAD and 3D modeling software (SolidWorks)Microsoft Office software – especially Excel and WordWillingness and ability to work in both an office and on the production floor.

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

Two (2) years of engineering experience in manufacturing environment or,Two (2) years of engineering experience in automotive design related field or,Two (2) years of engineering experience in vocational truck assembly.Ability to identify complex build challenges and implement solutions quickly and correctly.Ability to weld.Ability to understand 12V electrical systems.Ability to understand hydraulic plumbing systems. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Highly detail oriented and organized in work. Acceptable written and oral communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a customer service focus with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results. Must have initiative and the ability act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives. Must possess a strong desire to learn. Mechanical skills / experience with heavy trucks and heavy equipment is a plus.
