The Managing Director (MD) is responsible for leading the CIBC Private Investment Counsel (CPIC) channel nationally, overseeing its strategic direction, growth and overall performance of the advisor network nationally. This senior leadership role involves setting and executing business strategies to enhance client experience, drive asset growth and ensure alignment with the organization’s broader wealth management objectives. Key responsibilities include talent development, operational excellence, regulatory compliance and fostering a high-performing culture across regional teams. This leader also plays a critical role in identifying market opportunities, evolving the service model, and strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support long-term business success.

As a key member of the CIBC Private Wealth Management Leadership team, the MD, CIBC Private Investment Council is responsible for leading the overall CPIC vision and strategy while supervising and managing this regulated sales organization. Our advisors deliver deep advisory capabilities for all of our clients’ business and family wealth needs.  In this capacity, the MD is focused on continuous improvement to the wealth business serving CIBC’s High Net Worth clients.  Services include Private Banking and Trust; Comprehensive Investment Management; Sophisticated Wealth Strategies and Wealth Stewardship.  The role leads business strategies to maximize our share of wallet and increase our acquisition of external clients while continuously improving our client experience as we strive to be the number one Bank in client relationships. As an organizational leader, this role champions:

What You’ll be Doing

Contribute to the overall vision and strategy development for the business and facilitate the realization of the strategy.

Provide active leadership and direction for the transformation of the business to one which delivers an integrated wealth offer to clients. 

Comprehend, supervise and enforce regulation to assure adherence to industry and firm requirements.

Communicate, promote and reinforce the strategy and key messages of the Wealth business and CIBC.

Provide effective leadership to Investment Counsellors and their teams, to achieve high performance levels in the areas of client satisfaction, revenue generation, and asset growth.

Drive opportunities for portfolio growth and profile enhancement by maximizing the expertise of internal partners; establishing and strengthening relationships with other businesses across CIBC; recognizing referral opportunities to CIBC partners where a client needs will be best served.

Create an environment which fosters an exceptional advisory culture, supports partnering behaviour, and capitalizes on individuals’ expertise and knowledge of investment counsellor  services to provide “best in class” service and relationship management to our clients.

Ensure succession/transition plans are in place for key positions and proactively execute against the plans as needed.

Play an active role representing CPIC and CIBC Private Wealth Management.  Demonstrate leadership in the community through participation in volunteer/charitable initiatives.

Maintain high level knowledge of the macro economic and financial environments and evolving trends that relate to the Wealth business.

Be accountable to understanding global trends in Private Wealth to bring leadership and new ideas as we continue to elevate our brand and client experience and win market share.

Lead the talent strategy for CPIC, including identifying and attracting the right talent to help us build capacity and accelerate market share growth in the business.

What We’re Looking For

Highly developed leadership and large-scale people management skills.

Strong business acumen and 10-15 years of experience in the wealth management business.

In-depth knowledge of the investment council business and the ability to converse knowledgeably with Investment Counsellors and other key contacts about market and industry issues.

A registrant of a securities commission or CIRO.

Proven ability to identify business opportunities and implement successful business development strategies. 

Proven ability to effectively manage the implementation of transformational change and to increase employee motivation during a period of transition.

Results-oriented with the ability to achieve financial and business growth targets nationally.

Sales management expertise with proven ability to lead and develop world-class Investment Counsellor teams in a highly dynamic business and economic environment.

Superior relationship management skills with the ability to manage relationships across CIBC and represent CIBC to various communities of interest.

Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to and implement an integrated and interdependent client and employee experience. 

Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and changes that impact the business.
