Position Summary
Support Aetna's ability to achieve its financial and strategic goals through effective underwriting. Underwriting support primarily includes identifying, evaluating, and managing risk in order to maximize revenue, membership and earnings.
Performs accurate underwriting analysis and risk assessment for new and/or renewal of large group contracts. Assigned cases/book of business will include multiple product types, funding arrangements and/or rating methodologies.
This position requires solid Underwriting technical knowledge along with the ability to align pricing to case strategy, make alternative pricing recommendations and complex financial negotiations."
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Prepare and deliver complex new business quotes and/or existing business renewals.
Independently review work for accuracy, identify risks and make recommendations to manage risk while growing or retaining membership.
Utilize advanced functionality of underwriting tools, systems, and reference materials to produce accurate quotes, renewals and/or accountings.
Grant underwriting exceptions/financial variances for their assigned cases within the authority limit for the position.
Detailed understanding of the rate and/or administrative fee development, pricing components, and application of underwriting and/or accounting policies. Anticipate questions and formulate responses.
Serve as a strategic partner for field sales and account management on large employer groups. Presents information to employers, brokers and consultants.
Produce timely and accurate customer specific documents, deliverables and accounting related information. Ensure the pricing and/or accounting supports the quote/renewal strategy. Peer review others work for accuracy.
Assist department with projects or workgroups. Proactively identifies and supports process improvement through automation or process change.
Identify training gaps and recommend an appropriate course of action. May be asked to develop or deliver training.
Mentors less experienced underwriters in development of technical skills or specific subject matter.
Background/Experience
3 - 5 years experience in underwriting pricing methodologies and funding arrangements.
In-depth knowledge of rating and/or accounting and underwriting concepts preferred.
Demonstrated analytical and independent thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.
Ability to use standard corporate software packages and corporate applications.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

The typical pay range for this role is:
$66,330.00 - $145,860.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
