Description

As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for making sure safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations and educating pilots on potential safety threats to implementing medical programs and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees.


Job overview and responsibilities

 

As the Manager for Predictive Safety Data, you play a critical role in ensuring safety is at the core of everything we do at United. Our team is integral for ensuring a safe workplace for our employees and travel experience for our customers. This role is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a cohesive safety data strategy and supporting the Director of SMS in growing United's Safety Data Management programs. This includes data engineering to establish a scalable data infrastructure, by creating and maintaining highly integrated corporate safety data sources, identifying opportunities for prescriptive and predictive use cases, developing key safety metrics thorough data analysis, providing actionable data driven insights, and building out comprehensive business intelligence tools and dashboards. With the objective of reducing safety risk and improving our safety culture. This position will lead and coordinate with a team of data managers and subject matter experts from across the enterprise. This position will work closely with Digital Technology teams to leverage the latest in Data Science, focusing on data ingestions and transformations and data analytics improvements.
This role requires an individual with excellent analytical abilities and strong business acumen. While leading others, this role requires someone capable of being strategic, collaborative, and hands-on with safety data.

 

Develop and implement predictive/prescriptive data strategies for Safety Data Management and streamlining processes 

Collaborate with Digital Technology and Operational Safety teams, such as Aviation Safety, Operations Risk, Corporate Medical, Operations Safety, and divisional safety departments, to analyze, predict and reduce safety risks and provide measurable solutions

Partner with Digital Technology team to enhance safety management databases and develop streamlined and comprehensive data analytics workstreamsSupport United’s SMS with predictive data analytics by assisting in the design and develop of statistical models and improved data collection based on the operating needs of the organizationAreas of focus will include, but are not limited to:Predictive and prescriptive analyticsData VisualizationsModeling and coding of dataReporting and automation

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

 

Bachelor's degree

 

Data Science, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field requiredAt least 3-5 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, and/or data engineeringDeep understanding of data structures, relationships, and efficient transformationsFamiliarity with all parts of the data ecosystem -- acquisition, engineering, storage, management, analysis, visualization, and deploymentKnowledge and application of data visualization best practicesProven comfort working with massive data setsProficiency writing complex queries and procedures using both traditional and modern technologies/ languages (i.e. SQL, Python, Spark, etc.)Data visualization skills using one or more reporting tools (i.e. Spotfire, Tableau, Palantir, etc.) to produce meaningful, elegant, automation, reporting and dashboardsAbility to learn from subject matter experts and then design a data/technology solution that connects business processes with quantifiable outcomesExcellent interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skillsProven problem solving and organizational skillsAbility to quickly understand complex systems and explain them to varied audiencesAbility to work independently, and handle stress in a fast paced, multi-task-oriented atmosphereDemonstrated advanced use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft OneNote, Microsoft TeamsPosition may require some travel at times, up to 10% around the United system, to gain and support front line insightsMust be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorshipSuccessful completion of interview required to meet job qualificationReliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

The base pay range for this role is $112,480.00 to $146,540.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
