Manager Health and Safety

The Safety Manager will drive all safety and environmental related initiatives throughout the Unit ensuring all employees are provided the safest work environment achievable and maintaining Unit compliance with Company and customer and regulatory guidelines. This includes but is not limited to conducting needed and recurrent training to all personnel on required safety procedures and practices; ensuring workplace inspections are conducted as scheduled or required by law. Promote and foster accident prevention through continuous review of conditions and behaviors.

Compensation Range:  $75,000 to $85,000 gross annual + RRSP matching + no waiting period for medical or dental benefits, subsidized meals etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Responsible for the Unit’s overall Health and Safety program and performanceEnsure all incidents are investigated to identify causes; work with stakeholders to agree on corrective actions; track corrective actions through to completion; monitor successTrack OHS data in a meaningful way (accidents, near misses, workplace inspection findings, days lost…); create and maintain KPIsUse leading indicator data to proactively identify opportunities for improvement and to develop department-specific training to address those opportunitiesCollaborate with departments on their Safety Improvement Plans; monitor progress throughout the year; adjust as requiredChair / Co-chair JHSC meetingsManage injuries so that time loss is minimized; collaborate with stakeholders to create modified work plans; work closely with Human Resources to manage RTW programsManage safety training programs for Unit personnel. Track training and ensure material is current.Communicate to and educate all levels of Unit personnel on mandated safety requirements such as WHMIS and other governmental environmental guidelinesEnsure that manager’s safety-related activities are completed, such as workplace inspections, corrective actions, and Safety Improvement Plan actionsEnsure Preventative Maintenance Programs, as they relate to safely using Kitchen machinery, vehicles, and equipment, are established, maintained, and sustained throughout the Unit.Manage the Job Hazard Analysis system, including related training material; assess all new equipment and work processes for riskActively review, vet and implement safety and environmental programs as developed by CorporateMust obtain and maintain level 2 first aid ticketStrong leadership skills including the ability to influence others

Work Experience :

3-5 years prior experience as a Safety Manager/Supervisor in a Production environmentExperience managing WSIB claims, modified duties and RTW plansSolid understanding of WCB regulations, WHIMISExperience in a food manufacturing industry a plus

Communication Skills :

Excellent written and oral communication skillsMS Word, Excel
