Manager - Environmental Services

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for managing and implementing all aspects of the Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Logistics environmental programs. The position works in conjunction with the Director of Environmental Services to assist in developing programs and policies related to environmental issues. The primary goal of the position is to implement Department programs to comply with existing and future environmental requirements and protect company and customer liability with programs, policies, and procedures that are complementary with our business goals.
Major Responsibilities: • Manage and ensure compliance with all company environmental programs (Air, Water, Waste, Site Cleanup, Due Diligence, Audit, Training, Storage Tank, Waste Disposal and Sustainability). • Implement and facilitate Department Waste Program strategies to ensure compliance with existing and upcoming environmental requirements. • Manage preparation and timely submittal of all required written regulatory plans (Tier II, HMBP, SPCC, Haz. Waste, etc.). • Coordinate hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal compliance programs. Ensure vendors are providing timely waste disposal data and audit information to identify opportunities related to pricing/cost, service levels, and compliance. • Perform periodic audits at disposal facilities to identify potential liabilities. • Manage wastewater and stormwater programs to ensure regulated facilities are properly permitted and required sampling, inspection, and reporting requirements are being met. • Assist in Environmental Cleanup projects including on-going remediation projects, upcoming storage tank removals, and miscellaneous environmental investigations. • Ensure consultants and contractors are proceeding with remediation activities in a cost-effective manner designed to facilitate timely closure. • Monitor project budgets and ensure that monthly Environmental Reserve reconciliation is submitted and reserve amount is adequate. • Other projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, Occupational Safety or other applicable fields. • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other related certifications are preferred but not required. • Knowledgeable of environmental regulations as they relate to the transportation industry. These regulations include, but are not limited to: Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Oil Pollution Act , Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), CERCLA, EPCRA, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) • Minimum 15 years of experience working in the environmental field. • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint). • Must also be able to develop and utilize on-line vendor portals and web site applications. • Proven team leadership, management skills, and process management and improvement skills. • Demonstrated facilitation, change agent, and workout skills. • Interpersonal skills, including influencing and relationship building. • Must have proven ability to manage and/or collaborate with a technical group of Associates, deal with a diverse and multinational group of internal and external customers, and local, state, and federal regulators and municipalities, contractors/vendors, and other property and business owners. • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills; be decisive, confident, organized and creative. • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
