The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager, Research Support to work in Miami, FL.

The Manager, Research Support provides grant application and management support to facilitate research. Further the Manager, Research Support oversees laboratory facility and research operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations. 


Manager, Research Support for the Firefighter Cancer Initiative (FCI) provides operational, administrative, and supervisory leadership for one of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s flagship statewide programs focused on cancer prevention, early detection, and occupational exposure research among firefighters. The Manager ensures smooth execution of all research, clinical, and field-based activities, oversees regulatory compliance, supervises staff, and maintains the infrastructure required to support multiple complex, multi-site projects. This position serves as a critical liaison to fire service partners, internal stakeholders, and funding agencies and plays a key role in advancing the program’s impact and growth. Furthermore, the Manager, Research Support provides guidance and mentorship to FCI team members to encourage operational efficacy across all research projects. 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS        

1.    Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases.
2.    Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures and ensures all research is undertaken according to best practices.
3.    Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students.
4.    Conducts meetings with research and other staff, outside agencies, and other applicable organizations and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.
5.    Provides technical and program support and resolves operational problems.
6.    Assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts and other program-related documents and reports.
7.    Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions.
8.    Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.
9.    Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions 


1.    Oversees laboratory equipment purchase, use, maintenance, repair, and inventory. 
2.    Manages service contracts. 
3.    Trains laboratory staff on how to use laboratory equipment, laboratory techniques, and safety procedures. 
4.    Prepares laboratories for annual safety inspections. 
5.    Coordinates seminars and special activities in relation to research and laboratory safety. 
6.    Oversees the management of human research studies. 
7.    Collaborates with IT to maintain laboratory computers and servers running smoothly. 
8.    Assists with arrangement of laboratory guests, speakers, and recruitment visits.  
9.    Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. 
10.     Plans, implements, evaluates, and monitors the development of research programs.
11.    Implements research project plans related to the delivery of new and on-going research programs.
12.    Works with internal stakeholders so that the research projects runs efficient and effectively. 
13.    Evaluates and measures the effectiveness of assigned research projects and overall research program.
14.    Ensures that research operations are managed within authorized budgets.
15.    Collects, manages, and reports research program data.
16.    Develops and cultivates relationships and partnerships with various external entities and organizations to further research program functions and research project functions.
17.    Recruits, supervises, and evaluates staff and trainees to ensure optimum performance.
18.    Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the initiative and compliance with Federal and State research grants, as well as University policies and procedures. 
19.    Ensures FCI team members and trainees are trained on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS           

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
