Manager, Natural Gas Trading and Marketing
I. Job Summary Recognized across the organization for commercial Natural Gas marketing/trading expertise with experience across multiple commodities. Prior experience in developing new business, managing client relationships and managing Natural Gas commodity portfolios. Understands financial risk management, physical natural gas pipeline scheduling and logistics as well as legal/ contractual requirements when executing transactions. Able and willing to sell/market/trade on their own. The role works closely with plant operations, pipeline operators, risk and settlements, and environmental teams. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Researches short and medium term market activity / trends and develops a strategic and tactical plan to monetize WM’s Natural Gas and capacity portfolio, in the US and Canada. + Responsible for the optimization of short and medium term Natural Gas and pipeline capacity. Experience with scheduling Natural Gas in various pipeline systems in both US and Canada. + Responsible for business development and origination of Natural Gas deals to optimize the portfolio of assets. + Manages relationships with partners, counterparties, traders, and brokers on behalf of WM + Execute daily and monthly physical trades (fixed price, index price, and location price differences) and use financial hedges linked to Henry Hub to manage risk. + Capture value from transport and storage options, including short term storage and temporary pipeline loans, and optimize price differences at hubs such as Houston Ship Channel, Waha, and Carthage. + Contribute to monthly index strategy and negotiations with counterparties, aligned with risk and credit guidelines. + Track pipeline outages, maintenance, weather, storage levels, and flows, and turn insights into schedules and trading decisions. + Work within risk limits, keep clean profit and loss records, and ensure timely trade capture, confirmations, and settlements. + Coordinate with credit on counterparty approvals and collateral/margin needs. + Use available transport and storage contracts (firm and interruptible), manage capacity transfers, and prioritize scheduling rights. + Good understanding of Natural Gas pipeline systems in the US and North East Canada + Works closely with WM functions in plant operations, compliance and regulatory to establish and understand the natural gas position available for sale and purchase. + Works with WMRE senior management to establish strategy and resources as appropriate. + Works with internal and external customers, suppliers and other partners to resolve problems, respond to suggestions for improvement and enhancements, test, refine and institutionalize solutions. + Responsible for advising management on sales, trading and hedging strategies and activities. + Familiar with Natural Gas transaction systems (Nymex, ICE, NGX) as well as Over-the-Counter transactions. + Prior experience working with mid and back office employees systems (while not essential) would be helpful. III. Qualifications A. Required Qualifications + Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree + High School Diploma or GED (accredited) + four years of relevant work experience + 7 years relevant experience in Natural Gas Markets (in addition to education requirement). B. Preferred Qualifications Hands on pipeline scheduling experience, including standard scheduling windows and balancing with pipelines **C.
