The role of this candidate is responsible for Telesat’s regulatory engagement in the Asia Pacific region, with the aim to facilitate, obtain and protect market access and spectrum rights for Telesat’s satellites and services.ResponsibilitiesAcquire understanding of regulatory and market access frameworks in the region Direct engagement with national regulatory authoritiesSecure new licences/authorizations and maintain existing ones, either directly or through a distribution channelPrepare documentation in support of the licence/authorization application processEngage in complex negotiations in order to influence and optimize the domestic/regional regulatory framework to support business objectives and market expansionProvide regulatory support to the commercial team and distribution partners for market access in the regionLead or support domestic/regional consultations/industry coalitions that may impact Telesat's market and spectrum accessRepresent Telesat in relevant regional meetings (e.g. Asia Pacific Telecommunity meetings) and international forums (e.g. ITU related meetings) to promote Telesat's interests Assist with market access in other regions, when requiredIdentify and develop proposals to ensure Telesat long-term regulatory interests are protectedProvide key inputs to short and long term planning in support of corporate developmentRequirementsDegree in Engineering, law, public policy or any relevant technical subjectMasters degree is an asset
At least 5 years’ experience in any of the following:Government Relations, Public Policy and Advocacy, Market Access for Satellite Communications, Domestic or Regional Regulatory Framework/Forums and the Application of the ITU Radio Regulations.Strong technical, regulatory research and analysis skillsExcellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
