Manager, Fiber Systems Engineering
Job Summary The Manager, Fiber Systems Engineering is responsible for leading a team of up to 10 employees that support EPB’s fiber-optic server infrastructure, which provides services to EPB’s customer base. Duties and Responsibilities -Selects, develops, rewards and motivates a competent team. Meets frequently with the team, to foster staff growth in their positions, develops their skills and future potential by providing coaching and feedback on a regular basis. -Builds strong relationships and interacts effectively with employees, co-workers, and the leadership team. -Accountable for the efficient and effective management of the financial resources and assets for the department. Prepares a yearly budget for the department to align with the key performance indicators of the division. -Takes responsibility and owns major incident responses of critical events within the System Engineering team. Driving continuous improvement through post-incident reviews and trend analysis. -Develops a one, three, and five-year plan for the server infrastructure to maintain high availability for fiber optic customer’s services. -Holds vendors accountable to an agreed upon support agreement in order to meet specific SLAs. -Directs the activities of the Systems Engineering projects to achieve milestones and deadlines. -Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers with a sense of urgency. -Represents the Systems Engineering team on the Change Management Review Board. This includes mentoring Systems Engineers in developing Method of Procedures (MOPs) that are submitted for the board to review. -Leads and designs projects while implementing best practices for server administration and applications with strong follow-through and initiative. -Ensures proper patch management and security vulnerabilities are being handled within the guidelines of the information technology policy. -Directs all necessary audits and maintenance activities to ensure service levels are sustained, and that systems are optimized and not compromised. -Demonstrates talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex projects and work processes. -Enforces the development of system documentation, including diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and project scopes. -Partners with the various teams when implementing/transitioning new products, services, and processes. -Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, professional affiliations, and training to keep abreast of the latest technologies. -Provides after-hours support duties to sustain operational systems and service levels – 24/7/365. Education and Experience -Bachelor's Degree in a related technical field and 10+ years of experience in system and application administration is preferred. -Prior leadership experience leading a team of more than ten employees. -Working knowledge of virtualization technologies, DHCP/RADIUS, DNS, E-Mail, backup applications, monitoring solutions, networking, firewalls, patching, security, storage services, scripting, and automation tools such as Ansible. -Proven experience collaborating with other leaders and a deep understanding of technology's role in internal and external customer experience. -Knowledge, skill, and ability in creating technology roadmaps, forward-thinking, and can provide innovative solutions. Certification(s) & Other Requirements -Certification in Project Management, ITIL, or Six Sigma preferred. -Detail-oriented and able to manage complex systems -Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and time management skills. -Ability to translate technical concepts to the executive team and/or non-technical audiences. -Familiarity with ISP environments, DevOps principles, source control, Linux (RHEL) systems etc. is a plus.
