Manager, Derivatives Strategy & Solutions
**Job Summary** The role is responsible for performing complex research and analysis of major derivatives initiatives to identify, document and analyze complex processing, service and/or technical improvement opportunities. Business initiatives may also include implementations of new technologies and new product implementations. The role is also expected to perform business analysis recommending opportunities to streamline (or automate) end-to-end business processes, as well as consult with various stakeholders to consistently review the MBPS team’s organizational structure, transition opportunities, and operating model. **Overview** MBPS is officially registered as Manulife Data Services, Inc. but with an official trade name of Manulife Business Processing Services. MBPS is a Global Shared Service Centre providing Operations Administration, Finance & Investments, Contact Center, Claims, New Business and Underwriting, Actuarial, Legal & Compliance and Digital Information Services to Manulife Companies around the world. MBPS is headquartered in Quezon City, Philippines. MBPS has approximately 6,000+ employees across Manila, Cebu, and Chengdu (China). The MBPS Investments domain provides middle and back office operational support to the Global Wealth and Asset Management (GWAM) segment of Manulife. It consists of approximately 360+ highly motivated and experienced professionals whose internal partners include Business Units across Asia, North America, and Europe. Manulife's GWAM segment manages the Company's General Fund on-balance sheet assets through Manulife Investment Management. Manulife Investment Management also manages assets for institutional clients and investment funds in key markets around the world. It provides services to affiliates' retail clients through product offerings of Manulife and John Hancock. GWAM manages a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, timberland, farmland and asset allocation strategies. The segment has physical presence in key international financial centers, including the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, the United Kingdom, and throughout Southeast Asia. **Role and Responsibilities** Reporting to the Alternative Investment Operations Lead in MBPS, the Derivatives Strategy and Solutions Manager is primarily responsible for analyzing, coordinating, and communicating business requirements effectively between derivatives technology users and developers. The role has a matrix reporting to the AVP of Derivatives Strategy & Solutions based in North America. Responsibilities include the following: + Work independently or with management to identify complex operational business issues and develop creative solutions involving workflow procedures and/or new technologies + Review and redefine project plans to ensure completeness + Coordinate post implementation support for all projects and initiatives + Represent business unit in major division or corporate initiatives ensuring business unit needs are appropriately addressed + Keep current on possible future initiatives affecting the business areas and the Company + Identification of solutions and alternatives to business and system problems, outlining their relative merits, cost, compatibility, etc., to ensure clients make informed decisions. + Use industry experience and contacts to assist GDS in understanding what other similar companies are doing in terms of providing like solutions for initiatives tables (i.e. "best of breed" solutions). + Development of individual as well as cross-functional feasibility studies and business cases for new initiatives that will identify the business requirements and detail cost/benefit analysis to gain overall approval. + Build and maintain external vendor relationships to keep abreast of changing practices in the financial sector and bring together research options available to assist business partners in making informed decisions regarding specific business needs. + Establish relationships with business leaders in order to determine optimal solutions for complex business needs. Use industry knowledge and expertise, as well as external service providers to support new processes or requests by clients. + Ensure that all processes and systems work within the mandated regulatory and compliance requirements for the industry. + Development of test strategies, test plans, test cases and expected results in consultation with clients to ensure that initiatives being implemented meet expected deliverables. + Ensure stakeholders have a common understanding of project deliverables and parameters (e.g. time, cost, quality and benefits). + Exercise judgment in identifying issues, modifying plans as business conditions change, assessing courses of action and developing recommendations. + Maintain focus as priorities change, keeping business needs and importance in perspective as it relates to overall strategic goals and communicating these changes in an understandable, justified and acceptable means. + Act as a mentor in terms of enforcing solid Application management processes/methodology, particularly within Derivatives and the more technical resources working on projects from the business areas (Compliance, Risk Management, Front Office, etc.) + Provide real time systems support for derivative operations as needed for pricing, data capture/processing, batch processes, etc + Track business requirements through the Work Request or project processes adding value, as needed, to the design/analysis and testing phases. + Trouble shoot existing processes to discover errors, inefficiencies, and automation opportunities. + Influence and enhance the Derivatives team’s performance and capabilities in MBPS by: + cascading project objectives aligned to key strategic priorities + driving high performance through effective collaboration and project communication + evolving GDS-Manila’s overall capabilities through training, feedback, and knowledge calibration + independently recommending process and control improvements + understanding and analyzing business/operations requirements and monitoring key measures + facilitating user trainings prior to scheduled Derivatives system implementations + providing business support during major technology implementations and assuming primary escalation/resolution contact role + consult on complex Derivatives process migrations and operating model reviews **Qualifications** + University degree in accounting, finance, or business management-related courses + 5-8 years Business Analysis experience in Application Management environment within the financial sector + Strong Investment business knowledge, especially with derivatives trade lifecycle and operations functions, with 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Business Analyst in Derivatives/Investment IT Application Management + Experience with SDLC (software development life cycle) or Agile methodology + Hands on experience with SQL and an understanding of Java language + Experience with business requirement gathering and UAT script/scenario documentation + PMP, MBA, FRM, or CFA Certification is a plus + In-depth understanding of strategic business objectives combined with broad industry knowledge of investment products, market practices and derivatives operations. + Knowledge of industry compliance and regulatory requirements. + Proven capability in initiating, motivating and managing change effectively. + Highly developed presentation and communication skills. + Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in an international setting. + Exposure to OTC and exchange traded derivatives through formal course work and/or industry experience. + Experience with FINDUR, SUMMIT, Calypso, Murex, Sungard or similar derivatives applications is required. + Strong understanding of the business unit including product offerings, and service and management structure + Ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities of multiple, large initiatives. + Knowledge and understanding of system design and analysis, acceptance and user testing, training and product improvement methodologies. + Strong communications and influencing skills with the ability to articulate business cases clearly and effectively, while motivating team members and negotiating with representatives in other areas + Ability to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and business senior management. + Demonstrated understanding of issues relevant to broad organization and business strategic goals. + Able to analyze complex subject matter and propose solutions + Proactive versus correction problem resolution + Able to lead change initiatives + Self-motivated and quick learner + Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and influencing skills. + Ability to work in ambiguous environment and adapt to change while managing time and workload with aggressive timelines. + Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across cultures. _This Job Description is intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed.
