Job Description:

The Corporate and Public Affairs (CAPA) team delivers best-in-class external and internal communications to help differentiate TD in the market and elevate our brand. Role Overview:

We're looking for an experienced communicator to support media relations, issues management and executive communications across all of TD's lines of business in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario. The successful candidate can be based in Calgary or Vancouver.

The successful candidate will:

Lead external communications for all TD businesses and corporate programs in Western Canada and Northern Ontario, including Personal Banking, Wealth, Insurance, Business Banking, Corporate Citizenship and Marketing

Manage and execute proactive media campaigns and lead issues management within Western Canada and Northern Ontario

Support three senior executives based in the region, managing their external communications and providing expert counsel on the market's media landscape and political climate

Elevate brand communications and deliver storytelling that resonates within the market

Act as a media spokesperson as required and provide counsel and guidance to senior leaders and business partners on reputational risk

Collaborate with partners across the Bank to ensure strategy and messaging alignment, while building strong relationships

Champion strategic priorities for Corporate and Public Affairs, working collaboratively with colleagues on cross-functional initiatives

Be an advocate for clear, credible and transparent communications

Deliver results for the Corporate Citizenship strategy in the market through proactive media relations, events and programs that demonstrate our commitment to enriching the lives of our customers and communities

Work with the Government Relations team on managing regional activities and exploring potential public affairs opportunities

Champion regional storytelling through owned digital channels, including TD Stories

Build and maintain positive working relationships with key journalists

Manage a budget and provide oversight on vendor relationships

Desired qualifications and skills:

8+ years of experience in a corporate communications or public affairs environment, ideally in a large organization

Skilled communicator with strong media relations background and demonstrated experience managing complex corporate issues

Deep understanding of the market including the media and political landscapes, core audiences, the financial services/business sectors and overall operating environment

Proactive and industrious

Exceptional writing and editing skills and a passion for high-impact storytelling

A history of designing and leading proactive, integrated PR campaigns – both regionally and nationally – that effectively drive business objectives and win in share-of-voice

Expertise in providing reputational counsel and developing customer-centric corporate positioning in media messaging

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines

Self-starter who's highly motivated to deliver results and able to work independently

Ability to develop and implement innovative communications plans, particularly for large initiatives or events involving senior executives

Proven experience serving as a spokesperson for a major brand, including on-camera, and hosting media events

Experience in journalism (particularly a major market newsroom) is an asset

Undergraduate degree in communications or journalism, or equivalent, required 

Candidate must reside in Calgary or Vancouver as this role operates under a hybrid work model

Occasional travel may be required
