Position: Manager, Automation Engineering

Duties: Operational Excellence: Explains operational functions and key functional roles of assigned department or unit. Clarifies the role of each department or unit and its relevance to the enterprise strategy. Describes the interdependence of support functions and line operating functions. Identifies the primary operational functions of the organization. Understands where to locate and how to read One Best Way and Standard Operation Procedure information. Locates information regarding fundamental practices and policies. Lists common tasks and activities performed by operations functions and subfunctions. Data and Digital Literacy: Leverages data analysis tools to explore moderately complex data, develops and tests hypotheses, uses data to influence strategic work, and builds and presents insights. Identifies, implements, and drives technology change within scope of work. Uses visualization tools to represent data and construct coherent stories to influence decisions. Partnership and Collaboration: Engages with team members on a periodic basis and establishes credibility. Analyzes stakeholder needs and partners with stakeholders to share relevant information. Takes a "one team" approach to collaborate and accomplish goals for the business. Business Acumen: Supports the development of business cases and recommendations. Owns the delivery of project activity and tasks assigned by others. Supports process updates and changes. Solves simple business issues. Demonstrates functional knowledge of the business unit/organization being supported. Mechatronics: Updates existing CAD drawings based on requirements. Describes common drafting conventions, tools, procedures, and processes. Identifies basic functions and features of a design and visualization system. Navigates and troubleshoots control systems. Identifies electrical design concepts and techniques used in a supply chain. Cites examples of usage or application of electrical design in automating supply chain processes. Demonstrates knowledge of wiring schematics, ensuring they meet requirements and are compliant. Describes common mechanical components of Distribution Center and Fulfillment Center equipment. Names basic tools or technologies used in mechanical engineering. Automation System Design: Identifies the areas for usage of automation machineries. Assesses tasks for automation potential. Obtains information about alternative automation solutions. Assists with analyzing space and cost requirements associated with machinery usage. Identifies issues and provides resolutions to problems related to automation machineries. Process Flow Design: Interprets information to quantify the anticipated outcome of supply chain decisions. Describes the typical tasks associated with using and managing suppliers. Understands issues and considerations for inbound and outbound logistics. Describes basic logistical processes and subprocesses. This position does not supervise employees. This position requires travel up to 20% of the time. Position may work at various unanticipated Walmart locations and client sites throughout the U.S.
Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree or equivalent in Engineering (any) or related field; OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering (any) or related field and 2 years of experience in engineering, supply chain, or related area.
Skills required: Experience designing new network capabilities. Experience using diagramming applications to create E2E material flow process flowchart. Experience analyzing, explaining, and updating workflow documentation including AWI’s, WDS, SoW’s, and Functional Excellence Practices. Experience using data analysis tools (including Big Query, MS Excel/VBA, MATLAB, and Python) to navigate through complex data. Experience using data visualization tools including Minitab, Tableau, Power BI, and Dataiku to provide insights into data. Experience with Six Sigma and 5S techniques to drive leaner and more efficient operations. Experience defining performance metrics/requirements to be tracked through different phases of projects and conducting Overall Equipment Effectiveness calculations. Experience conducting observations and time studies to identify bottleneck processes and provide ideas for continuous improvement. Experience defining relevant design of experiment test cases to measure automation capabilities at development and production phases. Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) concepts to proactivity catch potential automation failures in development phase. Experience reading, analyzing, and updating mechanical and electrical engineering drawings. Experience with engineering economics to drive business cases to influence decisions. Experience with distribution centers and warehouse automation and systems controls logic. Experience managing vendors, integrators, and cross functional stakeholders while navigating project deliverables. Experience with project management and project management tools (including Gannt, Microsoft planner, and WRIKE). Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.
Salary Range: $99,000/year to $198,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
