The Opportunity:
The maintenance planner provides for effective use of labor, materials, and equipment through the planning, scheduling, coordination, and reporting of work for the assigned department. The Maintenance Planner is a key contributor to and facilitator of the work management process. The Maintenance Planner works in conjunction with the maintenance supervisor, maintenance technicians, operations maintenance coordinator and operations assistant superintendents. He or she maintains a backlog of work, progresses work orders to the ready-to-schedule phase, including active parts and services acquisition, and reviews technician feedback upon work completion.

Provides complete work order packages for all planned work to include:Scope of work to be performedPertinent specifications, instructions, and safety information such that competent craftsperson can perform the work without questionsExpected material requirements, including delivery/staging instructionsDetermines availability of materials and resources as required, writing purchase requisitions within the work order package as needed.Tools and equipment required for the jobComplete scopes of work for bidding work to contractors for jobs that will be contracted out.Follows maintenance workflow processes for converting identified work (work requests) to “ready to schedule status” work orders (all materials, information, tools, equipment, resources, etc. are available).Develops proper internal coding for material, parts and supplies and updates/creates/maintains appropriate equipment parts list or equipment Bill of Materials (BOM’s).Attends and contributes to the weekly planning coordination meeting in area of responsibility along with operations maintenance coordinators, maintenance supervisors, and operations assistant superintendents to develop the upcoming work schedule and for the next outage based on priority.Assists area maintenance supervisor and operations maintenance coordinator in reviewing “ready to schedule” backlog for work to populate the weekly work schedule or upcoming outages.Assist operations maintenance coordinator in identifying planned or ready to schedule work that can be handed off to maintenance supervisor / shift mechanic’s when equipment access opportunities arise either through unplanned downtime events or other emergency situations.Develops outage lists and manpower requirements in conjunction with appropriate maintenance supervisors and operations maintenance coordinators. Responsible for providing supervisory oversight to contractors performing work, either through routine weekly work or during outage activities.May assist maintenance supervisor with oversight of maintenance personnel during shutdown support.Develops and distributes outage work lists 3 weeks prior to the next planned outage.Assists operations and maintenance supervisors in developing the timelines for outages, identifying critical path work, and incorporating other work within the critical path timeline.Assists operations and maintenance supervisors in coordinating and executing work during outages and may include supervisory oversight to internal and external labor resources as needed.Work with contractor groups todevelop and understand Scopes of Work (SOW’s) and will, as needed, escort contractor(s) to and around job sites to assure full understanding of the SOW, the work area and other information to ensure contractor(s) can submit a complete bid on the job/project.Exerts fiscal responsibility by working with Purchasing Department to secure best quality of service at fair market pricing for external resources, working with area shops to return unused parts/materials to Storeroom or vendors, and assures that parts or equipment marked as repairable are properly evaluated as suitable for repair or advise to purchase new.What you will need to succeed:
B.S. Degree in Engineering or Technology related field (preferred) and 2+ years’ experience of professional experience in a heavy industrial environment working with mechanical maintenance or engineering teamsAlternatively, 3+ years’ experience in mechanical maintenance supervisory/planning role and 5+ years mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsStrong organizational and leadership skillsComputer skills are necessary with proficiency in MS Office suite and experience working in a Centralized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)Use of project management software, e.g. MS Project or Primavera P6 (preferred)Experience working in a unionized environment (preferred)What we offer:
