Maintenance Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for helping ensure that all agency buildings and grounds are well-maintained, safe, and operating in accordance with state regulations and agency standards.

This role supports daily maintenance needs, preventative maintenance, emergency response, and seasonal grounds care across the Main Building and Academy.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that supports individuals with complex needs. They must also demonstrate strong attention to detail and be able to work both independently and as an effective member of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility & Equipment Maintenance

Complete assigned repairs and maintenance work orders as directed by the Maintenance SupervisorAssist with repair, upkeep, and safe operation of tools, equipment, and machinerySupport maintenance of boilers, heaters, water systems, and building systemsAssist with preventative maintenance planning and completionAssist with carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, keylock/electronic security devices, and general repairsHelp maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance work areasRespond to maintenance needs in other departments as required

Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance

Maintain roadways, walkways, and parking areasPerform snow removal and ice control during winter monthsAssist with lawn care, landscaping, and outdoor upkeepHelp ensure grounds remain safe, clean and hazard-free

Safety, Compliance & Communication

Follow OSHA and agency safety policies at all timesHelp ensure facilities meet state and agency standardsReport safety concerns, needed repairs, and incidents promptlyMaintain confidentiality and professional conductParticipate in on-call rotation for emergency situations as scheduledMaintain valid driver’s license and safe driving record to operate agency vehicles

Team Participation & Professional Conduct

Attend meetings and trainings as assignedCommunicate effectively with team members and leadershipSupport a positive, team-focused work environmentFollow agency policies, procedures, and documentation requirementsDemonstrate reliability, integrity, and respect in all interactions

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Participation in an on-call rotation each month, as assigned Holiday shifts required as part of the rotation and/or on-call statusFlexibility is required to meet the evolving needs and emergencies of the program and organization

Education & Experience:

Minimum one year of maintenance experience (required)Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: carpentry, plumbing, electrical repair, painting, floor care/cleaning, boiler or heating systems, and snow removal/grounds maintenance.

Required Skills & Attributes:

Ability to maintain a calm and effective demeanor in emergency and stressful situations.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilityAbility to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years old.Must possess a valid Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record.Ability to implement approved physical intervention techniques when necessary.Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
